Jamie Bynoe-Gittens arrived in Germany in 2020. initially featuring for Borussia Dortmund's youth team, before he made his senior debut in 2022.

Persistent injury problems initially held him back somewhat, but he enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2023-24, staying injury-free and helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final at Wembley.

As a youngster with relatively little experience at the top level, Bynoe-Gittens is one of the lowest-paid footballers in the squad, but given his huge potential a pay raise could well be on its way.

How much does he earn right now, though?

Although Bundesliga players, specifically Bayern stars, earn impressive sums of money, they fail to make it onto the list of the top five highest-paid players in the world.

The list is completely dominated by Saudi Pro League players, with arguably one of the greatest forwards to play the game, Cristiano Ronaldo, sitting at the top.

Meanwhile, his former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema follows him in second place.

Moving on, Riyad Mahrez comes in at number three, followed by Senegalese internationals Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The right-back came through the Liverpool youth academy to become a star at Anfield since making his debut eight and a half years ago. However, the 26-year-old looks set to leave the club at the end of the season having reportedly reached an agreement over a contract with Madrid.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool with over 350 senior appearances under his belt and will likely end the season with a second Premier League winners' medal as the Reds sit 11 points clear at the top of the table. However, the Liverpool native has been told by Ally McCoist that he risks damaging his stature by heading to the Spanish capital.

  • WHAT MCCOIST SAID

"When I think of the two most legendary Liverpool players, the ones that come to mind are Steven Gerrard and Kenny Daglish. Both of them will go down in Liverpool folklore, even though Daglish played for a different club at first when he was at Celtic," he told . "If Trent Alexander-Arnold goes to Real Madrid, it doesn’t necessarily say to me that he won’t go down as a Liverpool great, but he definitely won’t be held in the same stature as the likes of Gerrard and Daglish as a legend, even though Gerrard didn’t even win a league title at Anfield."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ALEXANDER-ARNOLD?

The England international is out injured with an ankle injury and will miss his team's match against West Ham on Sunday.

An upgrade on Son: Tottenham chasing £29m phenom with "an eye for goal"

We are now firmly in the second half of the season, and Tottenham Hotspur’s campaign has gone from bad to worse.

Ange Postecoglou’s great entertainers went into their early kick-off against Newcastle United on Saturday in 11th place, and thanks to a 2-1 defeat, now find themselves in 12th, with a North London derby their next game in the competition.

However, while the result against the Toon was poor, the overall performance was not and showed that there is still a chance that the manager could turn things around.

Tottenham Hotspur managerAngePostecogloubefore the match

So, recent reports linking the club to a new attacking signing who could help him do that this month should excite the fans, even if the player in question could spell trouble for Son Heung-min’s place in the team.

Tottenham looking at new winger this January

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Tottenham are one of several teams interested in Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report has revealed that Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Roma have all scouted and been seriously impressed by the 24-year-old dynamo.

While the level of competition for the attacker’s signature is far from ideal for the North Londoners, the good news is that he shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, as the report claims that the Dutch side are looking for up to €35m for him, which is about £29m.

It could be a challenging transfer to get over the line, but given Paixao’s ability and impressive form, it’s one worth pursuing, even if he could seriously limit Son’s minutes going forward.

How Paixao compares to Son

Despite starting over the weekend, the last year or so has made it quite clear that while he can be a somewhat useful squad player, Timo Werner is certainly not Spurs’ first-choice left-winger.

That honour still belongs to club captain Son, although for all of his incredible performances for the club over the years, his influence over games is starting to wane.

So, were Daniel Levy and Co to sign Paixao this month, then it would likely be with the intention of him ultimately replacing the South Korean.

With that said, how do the pair actually stack up against one another, and would the “exquisite” Brazilian, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, really be an upgrade on the former Bayer Leverkusen star?

Well, from a pure output perspective, which is what matters most for any attacker, the answer is a resounding yes.

For example, in 23 appearances this season, the Chuncheon-born star has scored seven goals and provided six assists, which means he’s maintained an average of a goal involvement every 1.76 games.

Now, that is still undeniably impressive for any winger, let alone one who is set to turn 33 this summer, but it is still worse than the man who could be his upgrade.

For example, in just 24 appearances this year, the Macapá-born gem, whom Mango claims “has an eye for goal,” has found the back of the net on five occasions and provided 13 assists to boot.

This means that the 5 foot 6 dangerman is maintaining a brilliant average of a goal involvement every 1.33 games.

Ultimately, Son is undoubtedly a Spurs legend and could still be a valuable squad player for a few years more, but as things stand, his impact on games is starting to fade, and it would appear that Paixao could be the perfect upgrade on him.

Therefore, Levy and Co must do what they can to bring him to N17 before someone else gets there first.

Newcastle want to sign "rapid2 £25m ace who’d star alongside Botman

The January transfer window officially opened for business last week and Newcastle United could use the winter market to bolster their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

A 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday has left the Magpies in fifth place in the Premier League table, which could earn them Champions League qualification for the 2025/26 campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side are well in the race to land a place in Europe’s premier cup competition for the second time in his tenure and could add more quality to their squad to give the team a boost ahead of the final few months of the term.

Newcastle have won ten and drawn five of their opening matches in the Premier League so far, with 34 goals scored and only 22 conceded to date.

This shows that Howe already has a well-rounded team that has provided plenty of quality offensively and defensively in the top-flight, which means that they do not have to make wholesale changes to the group this window.

However, one or two quality additions could improve the squad and Newcastle are reportedly in the market to bolster their options at the heart of the defence.

Newcastle's interest in Ligue 1 colossus

According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle United are just one of a number of teams interested in a deal to sign RC Lens central defender Kevin Danso before February’s deadline.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The report claims that both the Magpies and fellow Premier League sides Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United want to sign the former Southampton titan, who played in the English top-flight during his time on loan with the Saints in the 2019/20 campaign.

It adds that European teams Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma, Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce, and Villarreal could also be in the race to secure his services ahead of the second half of the season. This suggests that there could be plenty of competition for the centre-back and that it will not be an easy deal for Howe and his team to complete.

Lens defender Kevin Danso.

CaughtOffside reveals that Lens are looking for a fee as high as €30m (£25m) to allow their star defender to move on from the club this month, although it remains to be seen whether or not any of the interested clubs are prepared to pay that much for his signature.

The report describes it as an ‘affordable’ price but does not explicitly state that Newcastle share that view, so it is unclear how likely a deal is for the Magpies at this moment in time.

If Howe and the recruitment team can secure a transfer for Danso, though, then he could come in and star alongside Sven Botman at the back moving forward.

Sven Botman's successful return to action

The Dutch defender made his first competitive appearance for Newcastle since March in the 2-1 win over Spurs on Saturday, starting alongside Dan Burn at centre-back.

Despite playing on the right side of the pairing, as a left-footed player, Botman produced a terrific display to help his team to secure all three points against Ange Postecoglou’s side, with a strong showing out of possession.

As you can see in the table above, the former Ajax starlet made a number of important defensive interventions to prevent Martin Dubravka from being troubled, whilst not allowing any Spurs players to dribble past him in 89 minutes.

The 24-year-old star’s best form came during the 2022/23 campaign, his debut season in England, as he played 36 times in the Premier League and helped the team to keep 11 clean sheets as they qualified for the Champions League.

jean-clair-todibo-sven-botman-newcastle-opinion

Botman won 68% of his ground duels and 66% of his aerial contests in the division that term, which shows that he has the defensive quality and physical strength to dominate opposition attackers on the ground and in the air on a regular basis.

As a left-footed player, the Newcastle titan should also play on the left-side of the pairing ideally and that is, partially, why Danso would be a dream signing for him this month.

Why Newcastle should sign Kevin Danso

Firstly, the Austria international is a right-footed defender who operates on the right side of the defence, which means that he would complement the left-footed Botman well as part of a balanced pairing.

Secondly, and most importantly, Danso’s form in Ligue 1 for Lens suggests that he has the quality to come in and form a solid partnership with the Dutchman from a defensive perspective.

As you can see in the chart above, the Austrian titan, who analyst Ben Mattinson claimed has “rapid” recovery pace, offers more than Botman in possession as a progressive passer and carrier of the ball – based on their respective form over the last 365 days.

This suggests that Danso could step up as the aggressive player in possession out of the pair to push Newcastle up the pitch, whilst the Dutch ace can sit back and focus on being a dominant defensive force.

As you can see in the table above, the 26-year-old has outperformed current right-footed Newcastle centre-back Fabian Schar in a host of key defensive metrics.

Schar, who turns 34 this year, could provide an experienced and brilliant squad option if the club can agree a deal for Danso, who appears to have the quality to be a fantastic and long-term replacement for the Switzerland international.

His statistics for Lens suggest that he has the ability, in and out of possession, to come in and star alongside Botman at the heart of the defence, as he is a progressive passer who is also dominant in the air and great at cutting out opposition attacks.

Sheffield United could land Billy Sharp 2.0 in "unbelievable" forward

With only one win next to their name this January to date, Sheffield United are in desperate need of getting back to winning ways when facing off against Norwich City this coming Saturday in the Championship.

If lady luck is on the Blades’ side, they could well leap into the top two automatic promotion spots come full-time versus the Canaries, with Chris Wilder’s men needing Burnley and Sunderland to slip up alongside picking up three points themselves.

Chris Wilder

To aid his team’s chances of going up automatically, Wilder will be crying out for more from the attackers he currently possesses, with the Blades arguably lacking the same star power as other teams near the top of the second-tier table.

Sheffield United's striker issues

Whilst West Bromwich Albion boast a deadly Josh Maja leading the line with 12 goals, and Leeds United have the likes of Joel Piroe who can find the back of the net at a moment’s notice, the fellow promotion hopefuls don’t quite strike fear into the heart of Championship defences in a similar way.

Of course, they do have seasoned EFL strikers such as Kieffer Moore and Tyrese Campbell – who have a combined career goal haul of 96 playing in the tricky division – but both are prone to picking up injuries, away from also going through barren patches of form.

Indeed, the Welshman has only fired home five league goals this season, with Campbell only bettering the ex-Cardiff City man by one.

Therefore, it’s no great shock to read most of the transfer rumours involving the Blades this January centre in on their desire to pick up a new potent attacker, with Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton Diaz both being linked heavily with switches to South Yorkshire.

Away from those two names, the promotion candidates are also considering an ambitious swoop for this marksman, who once called Bramall Lane his home before much like the Chilean.

Wilder could now sign Sharp 2.0

According to football journalist Alan Nixon – as has been relayed by The Yorkshire Post – United are still pursuing the signature of former star Oli McBurnie this month, despite already having an approach blocked by his current employers Las Palmas.

Often, it would be frowned upon trying to make a reunion happen, but as was the case when Billy Sharp triumphantly returned to Bramall Lane, bringing back the passionate Scotsman for a second stint could prove to be a success instead of an ill-fated move.

After all, Wilder managed to get a tune out of McBurnie more times than not during his time at the club in the past, with this well-taken strike one of six goals the ex-Swansea City man managed to bag for his side in the Premier League during the 2019-20 season.

He would depart for Spain having fired home an unspectacular 29 goals in total for the Blades from 159 appearances, but Sharp would initially leave his boyhood club in a similarly underwhelming manner back in 2009, having fired home just eight Championship strikes across his two previous seasons.

The rest is history now, however, with Sharp returning to become a hall-of-famer for the South Yorkshire side, with a hefty 129 goals next to his name now from 377 total appearances.

The 28-year-old target has also proven himself in the past to be a goal machine playing in the league below the Premier League, leading to shouts back in 2023 from former teammate John Egan that the imposing forward is “unbelievable” for the level.

Overall, the 6 foot 2 striker has a sizeable tally of 44 strikes next to his name when playing in the second tier, and much like Sharp managed upon his re-entry to Bramall Lane, McBurnie will hope he can take his game to the next level if he does return to catapult Wilder’s men back up to the Premier League.

Will Fraine 143, Harry Duke 111 help Yorkshire take high-scorer

Will Young makes 91 to lead Northants reply but target of 354 remains out of reach

ECB Reporters Network02-Aug-2022Centuries from openers Will Fraine and Harry Duke underpinned Yorkshire’s convincing start to the Royal London Cup as Northamptonshire were beaten by 33 runs DLS at York’s Clifton Park.Fraine’s all-format career-best 143 was ably supported by Duke’s contrasting 111 as Yorkshire racked up 343 for 5 in 46 overs, also including teenager Will Luxton’s 84. Fraine and Luxton dominated to start a batting day, while wicketkeeper Duke played the supporting role after the Vikings were inserted. In reply, New Zealand opener Will Young, captaining Steelbacks in this opening Group B fixture, kept their hopes alive with a top-score of 91. But he was out with just under 200 runs still required, and they were bowled out for 320 inside 45 overs. Dom Bess finished with 3for 63 off nine.Lewis McManus nearly matched Young with an entertaining, consolatory 82. Four overs per side were lost due to late morning rain.Fraine displayed power on the leg side and touch on the off as he hit 12 fours and eight sixes in 107 balls, usurping his Championship 106 against Surrey at Scarborough in 2019.In posting a second county century in front of a 3000-strong crowd, the 26-year-old made a Northamptonshire attack who erred on a pitch with good pace and bounce pay. Fraine pulled Tom Taylor over the pavilion and later hoisted Nathan Buck over the hospitality marquee at long-on.Duke, 20, also faced 107 balls. Shortly after Fraine had reached his century off 85 balls – at which point Yorkshire were 142-0 after 23 overs – Duke’s fifty came off 62. The busy Duke scooped with increasing regularity as he moved to his second List A century after 125 versus Leicestershire last year. When Fraine sliced Saif Zaib’s left-arm spin to backward point, the damage had been done at 209 for 1 in the 30th. But there was more to follow.England Under-19s batter Luxton followed Fraine’s dominance, hitting well straight for 10 fours and three sixes in 53 balls as the Steelbacks failed to stem the flow of runs until the final two overs when only 11 were conceded.Duke reached three figures off 97 balls, and Luxton’s second career fifty came off 35 a delivery later. Both men were caught in the penultimate over off Buck, the pick of the visiting attack with 2 for 66 from nine, following a second-wicket partnership of 134 inside 15 overs.Northamptonshire slipped to 36 for 2 inside six overs of their reply, including debutant seamer Ben Cliff inducing a leading edge from Ricardo Vasconcelos to wide mid-on after only four balls. Ben Coad also had Emilio Gay caught at slip.Young and Zaib shared 82 for the third wicket to get the innings back on track, though the road ahead remained a long one.Young was strong square on both sides of the wicket in his 64-ball innings, adding two straight sixes off the left-arm spin of debutant Harry Sullivan to a dozen boundaries. But he and Zaib fell in the space of five overs, leaving Northamptonshire at 158 for 4 in the 24th over. Zaib was stumped off Bess and Young miscued a pull at Coad to mid-on.Steelbacks had little option but to plough on. And they did, first through Rob Keogh’s 59.A feature of this fixture was that runs were largely scored with authenticity rather than agriculture. Keogh was no different. But he handed Sullivan his maiden wicket by picking out deep cover, and it was the first of three wickets for 17 runs which all but ended the contest as the score fell from 237 for 4 in the 34th over to 254 for 7 in the 37th.Sullivan also bowled James Sales and Bess had Taylor caught and bowled. Bess struck again before wicketkeeper McManus threatened a late and remarkable heist with four sixes in 62 balls, before falling lbw to Tom Loten.

Personal terms no issue after Arsenal make "surprise" approach for £44m star

Arsenal are believed to be the main contenders to sign a “special” forward in January, after making an approach to acquire his services, and it is believed that personal terms won’t be an issue either.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres, Galatasaray hitman Victor Osimhen, Botafogo forward Igor Jesus and Wolves sensation Matheus Cunha are all reportedly being considered as options by Emirates Stadium transfer chiefs, with the reliable Fabrizio Romano stating last week that Arsenal are making constant calls in their attempts to sign a new number nine.

“Arsenal are working on the striker position. Mikel Arteta already confirmed that Arsenal are working for a new addition,” said Romano to GiveMeSport.

“And I can tell you that also in the last 24-48 hours, there were many calls from Arsenal to ask about situations of important players around Europe. So Arsenal are exploring opportunities for the striker position, let’s see what they will be able to do. But for sure, Arsenal are looking at that. So work in progress.”

Wolves’ Cunha is believed to be a serious target for Arsenal on their shortlist, but they can only sign the Brazil international on a permanent deal, as they’ve used up both of their domestic loan spaces on Neto and Raheem Sterling.

Some reports suggest that the forward, signed by Wolves from Atlético Madrid for £44 million after an initial loan, could command nearly double that amount to sign this month (Ben Jacobs).

Arsenal in pole position to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves

Nevertheless, according to GiveMeSport and journalist Dean Jones, Arsenal are the team in pole position to sign Cunha if he does leave Molineux in the coming days.

Chelsea have been named as other suitors for the “special” South American, but it is Arteta’s side currently out in front, coming after they made a “surprise” enquiry over signing Cunha earlier this transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers'JoaoGomescelebrates with Andre and Matheus Cunha after scoring

Personal terms won’t be an issue when it comes to tempting Cunha with a move to the Emirates, after they explored that possibility with the player. The 25-year-old was actually closing in on improved terms with Wolves, but they reached an impasse, with Cunha insistent on a relegation clause.

While these contract talks briefly stalled Arsenal’s move for the former La Liga star, it is now believed they favourites for his signature above the likes of Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Tottenham.

The pathway to Pakistan’s senior women’s team had till now been vague, with no lines going down to the grassroots level, meaning a pool of only 30-35 competitive cricketers at the senior level.

Perfect for Maddison: Special England talent wants to seal move to Spurs

After weeks of miserable football and worse results, Tottenham Hotspur picked up a much-needed victory on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side travelled to Hoffenheim knowing that a win was imperative to keep their hopes of automatically qualifying for the next round of the Europa League alive, and while it wasn’t straightforward, that’s just what they did.

While there were several good performances on the night, club co-vice captain James Maddison really stood out, scoring and assisting a goal.

The Englishman hasn’t been at his mercurial best in recent months, but Thursday night reminded everyone just how good he can be, and fortunately for him, the manager and the fans for that matter, recent reports have linked Spurs with a player who’d be the perfect teammate for him.

Tottenham chase midfield maestro

According to a recent report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have maintained their strong interest in LOSC Lille star Angel Gomes.

In positive developments for the North Londoners, the report has revealed that the England international now favours a move to them over other suitors, including West Ham United and Manchester United.

However, while the team could do with some reinforcements this month, it would appear as if the Lilywhites are working on a pre-contract agreement for the 24-year-old, as with his £11k-per-week contract expiring in the summer, he’ll be available for free.

It might not be what the team needs at this moment, but signing a player of Gomes’ ability for nothing is an excellent bit of business, especially as he could help Maddison play at his best more often.

Why Gomes would be a dream teammate for Maddison

So, it would probably be fair to say that the Maddison we saw against Hoffenheim on Thursday night was the one that fans want to see more of.

The tenacious midfielder who can kickstart attacks from nothing, play a killer ball in behind for his teammates, or break the lines himself to put the ball in the back of the net.

However, for fans to see more of that, the former Leicester City star needs an extremely dependable midfielder to play alongside him, someone who can help out offensively but is also talented and disciplined enough to help out in build-up and defensive situations, which is where Gomes comes in to play.

The former Manchester United prospect has spent much of his career playing in either attacking or central midfield, and as such, has the skill set to influence all phases of play and could, therefore, platform his compatriot to focus on happenings at the sharp end of the pitch.

For example, FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League, places him in the top 5% of attacking midfielders and wingers for shots blocked.

Moreover, an article from the Coaches Voice last September praised him for his pressing and counter-pressing ability, which in a Postecoglou system could be game-changing.

However, while he can help break up play and help defend central spaces, the “special” 24-year-old, as dubbed by former manager Jocelyn Gourvennec, can also help the Lilywhites and Maddison in attacking situations, as exemplified by FBref placing him in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for pass completion and successful take-on percentage, the top 3% for carries, the top 4% for passes into the final third, the top 6% for progressive passes, switches and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, signing Gomes in the summer would be an excellent idea for Spurs and Maddison, as the Lille star would platform the Coventry-born star through his defensive efforts and assist him with his brilliant passing range.
