Colombia were the surprise package at the Copa America in the United States as they reached the final of the prestigious tournament, however, they lost in heartbreaking fashion to an extra-time winner from Lautaro Martinez. Regardless, Nestor Lorenzo's players like Rios – who plies his club trade for Palmeiras – among others caught the eye of multiple top clubs with a summer move in mind.

Manchester United are one such club that have been impressed by the 24-year-old and sources have relayed to GOAL Brazil that the Red Devils have already made first contact with the central midfielder's representatives. The sources have suggested that Erik ten Hag's side are preparing a £17 million ($21.9m) bid for the Colombian as the Dutchman and INEOS have planned a squad overhaul following a poor 2023/24 season.

WHAT'S MORE?

The source has also suggested that Palmeiras are not planning to budge easily despite knowing the value the midfielder holds in the eyes of multiple European giants, with AC Milan also reported to be interested in the talented player. The Alviverde do not want to lose such a key player in the middle of the season and are not open to negotiating.

Earlier in the month, Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira was very clear that the club does not need to make any more sales following the exits of Estevao Willian to Chelsea, Luis Guilherme to West Ham and Endrick to Real Madrid. He told the media: "We’ve already made a lot of money from sales. Now, we need to focus on alternatives within the field."

Spurs messed up with Poch signing who’s now valued less than Vincent Janssen

Tottenham Hotspur are now in charge of their own Champions League destiny after defeating Aston Villa 4-0 over the weekend.

The three points took Ange Postecoglou’s side to two points of fourth-placed Villa while having a game in hand.

Three of the Australian's signings got on the scoresheet: James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, and Timo Werner, which just highlights how well the club has recruited this season.

However, new players living up to their price tag hasn’t always been the case for the Lilywhites, with one player in particular now worth far less than what they once cost.

What Spurs paid for Tanguy Ndombele

Prior to his move to the Premier League, Tanguy Ndombele was thriving in France for Lyon, picking up six assists and seven assists in consecutive seasons from 2017-2019.

tanguy-ndombele-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-hojbjerg-pochettino

After the 2018/19 campaign, Spurs looked to secure themselves a midfielder to build their team around for the future, splashing a huge club-record £63m on the French star during the reign of Mauricio Pochettino.

The start to the number 28’s career at Spurs was fantastic, scoring on his competitive debut against Aston Villa, and setting up Erik Lamela’s goal in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City just a week later.

However, the rest of Ndombele’s debut campaign was hindered by multiple injuries, picking up five setbacks and missing 17 matches across all competitions.

The former Lyon star did feature much more heavily in the 2020/21 season, playing 33 matches and making 28 starts. This would be his best period at the club in terms of game time, with his career not going to plan since.

Ndombele’s transfer value in 2024

Ndombele has been starved of consistent minutes in recent years, with loan spells to Lyon and Serie A winners Napoli failing to reignite the “unplayable” talent, as he was once dubbed by Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, that was once displayed.

Fast forward to this season, and the 27-year-old is playing his football on loan from Spurs at Galatasaray, but unfortunately, the same old problems keep occurring.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The number 91 has suffered two different injuries this campaign, which have made him miss six matches. This has hindered his progress and seen him feature mainly as a substitute, tallying up 656 minutes across 25 matches.

These unfortunate setbacks and his inability to showcase his talent in the most elite leagues in Europe have caused Ndombele’s estimated worth to decrease significantly by £50m, to the point where he’s now valued at just £7m as per Football Transfers. Dismally, that's now even lower than another Spurs flop in Vincent Janssen, a man now plying his trade in Belgium and valued at £8.2m.

As you can see, this would only make Fraser Forster less valuable than him in the entire current Tottenham squad, with the likes of Ben Davies and Bryan Gil relatively on par.

Given that Ndombele hasn’t played a game for Spurs since 2022 and he’s still contracted to the club, it is clear that his transfer can certainly be classified as one of the biggest howlers in the club’s history.

Spurs barely speaking to club despite rumours of deal being all but agreed

Tottenham have hardly been in contact over a move for one of their summer targets in recent weeks, despite reports of a deal being broadly agreed.

Spurs aiming for late top-four push

Ange Postecoglou's first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is looking likely to result in a return to Champions League football, with Spurs currently nine points clear of Manchester United and occupying what is likely to be a fifth Champions League spot for English teams come the end of the campaign.

A 1-1 draw with West Ham dented their hopes of leapfrogging Aston Villa into fourth, and despite knowing that they face the top three sides between now and the end of the season, Ange will be hoping a strong end to the Premier League campaign will see them take fourth spot.

No Spurs contact in recent weeks despite striker rumours

One man currently left in the dark over his future is loanee Timo Werner. The former Chelsea striker was signed on loan in January, in a deal that contains an option to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent deal for around 17m euros this summer.

However, that option has to be exercised before the beginning of EURO 2024 (June 14th), giving Tottenham a hard deadline before which to make a decision on the German.

Werner has impressed since his arrival, and grabbed an assist against the Hammers, teeing up Brennan Johnson for the opening goal. Speaking on potentially signing the German permanently, Postecoglou was in no rush but sounded positive about the prospect.

"In terms of his future, like most players, the decisions will be made at the appropriate time," said the Tottenham boss. "I think he's been a great signing. He's been a really important part of our structure and I think he can also improve."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the divide, Marco Rose has also spoken on the prospect of the deal being done: "We are not in contact, but of course I am following his development. He starts scoring again, this is a result of being comfortable and feeling good. He should keep riding the wave. Basically, he is one of our players, but Tottenham obviously have the opportunity to sign him completely."

Despite this, Sport Witness claim that though the player 'definitely wants' the move to north London, there has been 'no contact’ between Spurs and Leipzig in recent weeks to communicate longer-term plans.

One theory that they put forward is that Spurs may be wanting a discount on the deal, something which seems unlikely given his renaissance in north London. Of course, it needs little more than a single call to activate the pre-agreed deal, so a lack of contact isn't something to be massively concerned about.

But with reports that Tottenham want to sign another striker and a winger this summer, could they be having second thoughts about making Werner's deal permanent?

Ireland clinch thriller thanks to Paul Stirling's 47-ball 95

Ireland had come desperately close to beating West Indies in the second match of their ODI series. On Wednesday, they actually got over the line, in one of the strangest and most seesawing T20 games you’ll see. They looked like they were running away with it for the first quarter of the match, thanks to a barnstorming 47-ball 95 from Paul Stirling, but West Indies clawed their way back with a brilliant display of T20 bowling smarts led by Dwayne Bravo, who was playing his first international match in three-and-a-half years.Instead of a target in the 240-250 range, which looked eminently possible at one stage, West Indies were set 209 to win. They were always in touch with their required rate, with every member of their top six getting among the runs, but they somehow – not least thanks to some brave bowling choices and brilliant catching from Ireland – fell narrowly short.Sensational Stirling, brilliant BravoOf the eight batsmen to have got past the 2000-run mark in T20Is, David Warner has the best strike rate, 140.85. Who’s second, at 139.77?You’ve read the headline of this report, so you know who it is. And yes, Stirling has played a large proportion of his T20Is against non-Full-Member or lower-ranked-Full-Member teams. But he can do it against the top teams too.Just ask West Indies, who seemed in utter disarray when he was in the middle. At the six-over mark, Ireland were 93 for no loss. No team had previously scored that many runs in the powerplay of a T20I game for which ESPNcricinfo has ball-by-ball data. The pitch in Grenada was flat, but Ireland’s openers were also in rare form, with Stirling punishing anything in his arc with clean hits down the ground, and Kevin O’Brien pulling even marginally short balls for six.At the 12-over mark, Ireland were still on course for a gargantuan total, with Stirling and O’Brien having moved them to 153 for no loss and set a new record for Irish first-wicket partnerships.Dwayne Bravo takes off in celebration•Getty Images

But this was Bravo’s comeback game, and he wasn’t going to let it slip by without making some noise of his own. His first over had gone for 18, with Stirling taking his first three balls for 4, 6, 6. He was picking Bravo’s famous slower ball out of his hand, holding his shape, and launching him dismissively down the ground. This pitch wasn’t one for floaty slower balls, so Bravo went to his other famous weapon, and fired in three yorkers in a row. O’Brien kept out the first two, but he couldn’t stop the third one, dipping late with a tiny bit of inward swerve, from crashing into his off stump. That ball was the start of a dramatic mid-innings slump that saw Ireland losing 4 for 10, including the wicket of Stirling – who for once miscued a slog-sweep in an innings full of mighty slog-sweeps – in 19 balls. Bravo began the slide, but equally important was the quickish turn and variety of Hayden Walsh, whom Ireland’s batsmen struggled to pick.Gary Wilson and Gareth Delany got Ireland moving again with a 35-run stand, in 17 balls, for the fifth wicket, but Bravo came back and conceded just four runs in the 19th over, which included another dipping yorker to bowl Delany, and Sheldon Cottrell finished off with wickets off the last two balls of the innings, having conceded only six runs off the over, to suck away their momentum again. In all, Ireland only made 55 in their last eight overs.Ireland tear up the match-up rulebookWest Indies know how to chase 10 runs an over, and they were going about it clinically, reaching 105 for 2 at the halfway mark. Evin Lewis, carrying on his rich form from the ODIs, had scored 53 of those runs before falling to a Craig Young slower ball in the ninth over, and Shimron Hetmyer was taking the baton from him, clattering two sixes to get to 21 off 14.Ireland had used George Dockrell’s left-arm spin against two left-hand batsmen in the eighth over, and Hetmyer and Lewis had hit him for three sixes and taken him for 21 runs. Now, in the 11th over, Dockrell came back with one left-hander still at the crease.A single to Kieron Pollard first ball brought Hetmyer on strike, and he immediately hit the next ball for six, clearing long-off with ease. That ball was outside off stump, but within Hetmyer’s hitting arc. Dockrell moved his line wider, Hetmyer tried to take on long-off once more, failed to get the desired elevation, and nearly offered the fielder a catch.Kieron Pollard whips one into the leg side•BCCI

When he came back on strike for the last ball of the over, Dockrell dangled up another ball wide of off stump. Hetmyer went for it again, failed to connect cleanly once again, and this time long-off moved in quicker and dived forward to take a low catch. At the start of the 15th over, West Indies needed 59 off 36 with seven wickets in hand, and Pollard on 31 off 13, striking the ball beautifully. Ireland brought the offspinner Simi Singh back into the attack. Pollard had hit Simi for a six and a four in his previous over; could Andy Balbirnie have turned to the legbreaks of Delany instead? As it happened, Simi decided to bowl legspin himself. The first ball was punched back to the bowler. Pollard went after the second, went a little too hard at it, lost his shape, and holed out to long-on. The shot may have come about because West Indies had played out five dots in a row, with Josh Little tucking Nicholas Pooran up for room in his previous over, and foxing him with his pace variations.Bravo falls narrowly short of fairytale finishPooran’s struggle continued into the 17th over, when Dockrell, continuing to bowl a wide line to the left-handers, beat him three times in a row. He was anxious, looking to hit the ball too hard, and was on 12 off 19 balls at the end of that over, with West Indies needing 43 off 18.Having swung one way, the match immediately swung the other, with Sherfane Rutherford clattering a pair of sixes, over long-off and wide long-on, off the first two balls of the next over, bowled by Barry McCarthy. Pooran came on strike for the fourth ball, and suddenly discovered some clarity, carving McCarthy for a pair of fours through the off side, and launching him for a straight six in between. The seesawing wasn’t quite done yet, though, with Pooran picking out deep backward square leg in the next over, and Bravo coming in and playing out successive dots off Young in a 19th over that went for just three runs. This left West Indies 13 to get off the last over, which would be bowled by Little. Rutherford fell first ball, miscuing a leg-side heave, before Bravo put the pressure back on Ireland with a trademark pull-whip for six. Seven off four became five off two, and another pull-whip brought the stadium off its feet only for a sudden hush to descend as the ball disappeared inside deep midwicket’s hands. Hayden Walsh had to hit a six to win it, or a four to tie, but Little nailed a blockhole ball that he simply couldn’t put bat to, and Ireland, despite all the lost momentum, were over the line.

Amad impressing in pre-seasonWould like to spend whole career at Man UtdCurrent contract expires next summerWHAT HAPPENED?

Amad is heading into the final year of his current contract at Man Utd, though the club do have an option to extend that by a year. The winger has starred in pre-season, earning praise from his manager for his performance against Rangers after scoring a 2-0 win for the Red Devils. The youngster has also impressed on the training ground as he stakes a claim for a starting spot in 2024-25.

Amad missed the majority of last season with a knee injury but still popped up with some memorable moments, notably scoring the winner in an epic FA Cup quarter-final win over bitter rivals Liverpool. The 22-year-old may be heading towards the end of his current deal but has now made it clear he's eager to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

WHAT AMAD SAID

Amad was asked about his future during Manchester United's pre-season tour and offered up the following response. He told reporters: "I'm very happy here. I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone, good energy. Why not stay here all my life?

"It was not easy for me to get an injury in pre-season last season. I was out a long time but the most important thing was to come back stronger, to help the team and in the end I was happy with my contribution. I forgot the past and now I'm thinking about the present.

"I am so motivated to start the season, I'm so excited, I believe in the manager. Last season, I know didn't play a lot but this season is going to be a good season for everyone and I'm so motivated to start the season."

GettyWHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD

United have planned new contract talks with Amad and have already snubbed a £30 million ($38m) offer for the forward this summer. The youngster will be hoping to continue to catch the eye in pre-season and force his way into Erik ten Hag's starting XI for the 2024-25 campaign. However, he will face plenty of competition for a place in the team from the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

£25k-p/w Nottingham Forest player left in the cold by Nuno set to leave

An update on Nottingham Forest's summer transfer business has been forthcoming on Friday, courtesy of sources in Spain.

Forest handed relegation boost

A vital 3-1 win over Fulham, combined with defeats for Luton Town and Sheffield United and a draw for Everton, handed Nottingham Forest and Nuno Espirito Santo a much-needed boost in their bid for Premier League survival this season.

The four point deduction that the club received over the international break as a result of breaching financial fair play regulations left them in the relegation zone with time running out in the season. However, a first half blitz against the Cottagers means that Forest end the week three points clear of the drop with seven games left to play, including games against three of the sides around them in Sheffield United, Burnley and Everton.

Still a mammoth 15 points clear of the 40-point barrier that usually ensures safety, wins against those also scrapping for survival will go a long way towards keeping them in the top flight.

After that, they face an off the pitch battle as more financial uncertainty has left them seemingly needing to sell their stars once more this summer, amid speculation surrounding both Morgan Gibbs-White and impressive defender Murillo.

Nottingham Forest eye another Brazilian gem to solve their biggest issue

As per the Daily Mail, 'Forest are at risk of breaching financial rules again next season if they don't sell one of their top stars in the summer', which could mean a quiet summer on the incoming front for the City Ground side as they look to avoid further punishment. With that in mind, they have come to a decision on one of their players.

£9.5m saved with transfer decision

This comes in the form of World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel. The Argentine defender was signed on loan from Sevilla last summer, but has struggled to nail down a starting spot at the City Ground. The last of his nine Premier League outings came as a second half substitute against Bournemouth at the beginning of February, and he has been an unused substitute for both of Forest's last two games.

As per Spanish sources, this has made his purchase impossible. That is because the obligation to buy the Argentine defender only became active if he played half of Forest's games this season, but even if he were to start all eight of their remaining fixtures he would not reach that threshold. That obligation stood at 11m euros (£9.5m), which would have seen Sevilla break even on the Argentine.

However due to his lack of game time he is set to return to Sevilla, where he is under contract until 2026. The report adds that he will have to accept a reduced salary than the one Forest had agreed to pay him were the move to become permanent this summer, with the defender set to revert to his £25,000 a week deal in the south of Spain.

For Forest though, it will come as a major win, with the club avoiding having to shell out for a play Nuno clearly doesn't value.

Evin Lewis hundred powers West Indies to 3-0 whitewash of Ireland

Opener goes one better than in Barbados as West Indies seal first home series win since 2014

The Report by Alan Gardner12-Jan-2020West Indies wrapped up a 3-0 series whitewash of Ireland, led to their target by another ruthless display of batting from Evin Lewis, to confirm the strides made under Phil Simmons’ guidance in his second spell as coach. This was West Indies’ second 3-0 win in a matter of months, victory over Afghanistan by the same score on neutral ground in India ending a five-year series drought in ODIs; success against Ireland was their first at home since beating Bangladesh back in 2014.Set a modest target on a pitch that had begun to play increasingly true after a damp start in Grenada had encouraged Kieron Pollard to bowl first, West Indies cruised to victory with more than 10 overs to spare, after a third rain delay had cut their requirement to 197 from 47. As well as the performance of Lewis, who recorded his third ODI ton, there were career-best figures for legspinner Hayden Walsh and an impressive showing from young quick Oshane Thomas for Pollard to savour.Having come so close to an upset in the second ODI, which was decided by one wicket with one ball remaining in Barbados on Thursday, Ireland could not rouse themselves to the same levels after a short trip across to the Windward Islands. Andy Balbirnie led from the front with 71, but he found little support throughout the innings and a total of 203 looked some way under par on a ground that saw an aggregate of 807 runs scored in the last ODI played here.Ireland needed early wickets, and athough they managed two during the initial Powerplay, Lewis quickly located the groove that saw him finish on 99 not out in the first match of the series, having narrowly failed to win the game with the six needed for his hundred. This time he was in no mood to fall short. Three times he cleared the ropes early on, to go along with several crisp fours, as West Indies reached 58 for 2 after 10 overs, Lewis having scored 46 of them.Barry McCarthy struck in his third over, pinning Shai Hope lbw – Lewis’ apparent support for the wasted review perhaps his only bad decision – and Simi Singh had Sunil Ambris caught behind trying to cut for another single-figure score, but Ireland’s bowlers had been left with too much to do. Brandon King stroked three of his first nine balls to the boundary and looked in formidable touch, helping Lewis add 75 in just 13.3 overs. With King showing flashes of the CPL form that led to his debut late last year, Lewis was happy to tick over, adding 12 singles from 25 balls before tucking into McCarthy again – a period of 6-dot-4-6 dispelling any notion that the opener was becalmed. And while King edged a cut against Andy McBrine in the following over, Lewis and Nicholas Pooran guided the chase either side of the showers.Lewis brought up three figures in an ODI for the first time since 2017 from his 96th delivery, pulling Craig Young for four with nine runs needed, but fell to the next ball as he tried to finish the match. Romario Shepherd was promoted up the order, only to hole out off McBrine, before Pooran’s fierce pull sealed the result.A sign of West Indies’ strength, albeit against the No. 11-ranked side in ODIs, came in the changes made for this game. Shimron Hetmyer was left out after making two single-figures scores in Barbados (but only five innings since smashing 137 from 106 against India in Chennai), though Ambris could not take advantage of the chance at No. 3; Sheldon Cottrell, West Indies’ most-successful bowler over the last 12 months, was also rested, allowing a run out for the towering Thomas. It was Thomas, 22 years old and capable of bowling 145kph, who undermined Ireland’s attempts to battle through against the new ball. He removed the openers, Paul Stirling and James McCollum, with both discomfited by his pace and splice-jarring lengths. Stirling started with twos from his first two balls but could only manage one more run from his next 21, before edging a skittish pull behind, while McCollum played tidily enough for 20 but was snagged by Lewis in the covers after driving without getting forward.Balbirnie held the innings together with his ninth ODI half-century, but Ireland struggled to build partnerships and his dismissal in the 38th over left them without a recognised batsmen going into the death. Walsh’s initial spell had seen him take 1 for 25 from five overs, but he switched ends and produced figures of 5-0-11-3, which included the wicket of Balbirnie, caught slicing to point, just when Ireland were looking to kick on. Only some impish hitting from McBrine, whose 22-ball 25 from No. 9 was Ireland’s second top score, got them above 200.Two rain delays did not overly help Ireland’s cause, with Roston Chase striking twice during an unbroken spell – although a brace of slog-swept sixes from Balbirnie dented his final analysis. William Porterfield was pinned lbw in Chase’s second over, struck low on the front pad trying to sweep, and although Kevin O’Brien drove his first and fourth balls crisply for four, a similar lofted shot saw him pick out deep extra cover.A deceptively flighted googly was the undoing of Lorcan Tucker, as Walsh found his range and some turn to beat the inside edge, the ball shivering off stump with just enough force to dislodge the bail. That left Ireland on Nelson with half the team back in the dressing room, and although they hopped along gamely they didn’t have a leg to stand on by the end.

Spurs eyeing new midfield running man for Postecoglou

Fabrizio Romano shares Tottenham transfer "priority" for Lange and Levy

They really want a “quality player”.

ByEmilio Galantini Mar 21, 2024

Hojbjerg has made the overwhelming majority of his appearances from the substitute's bench this season, and doesn't appear likely to force his way into Postecogou's starting eleven on a consistent enough basis to consider staying.

The Dane's contract expires in 2025, adding further fuel to the fire that Spurs may well consider cashing in on the player rather than lose him for free next year.

Hojbjerg will be remembered as a faithful servant to the club when he does depart, and while that looks increasingly likely, it is believed that Spurs are eyeing up his potential replacement behind the scenes.

One player who Spurs have been increasingly linked with is Chelsea star Gallagher, with the 24-year-old's contract also expiring next year. Chelsea are soon faced with the big decision of whether to sell their star man if they can't agree an extension, and Spurs are reportedly ready to move for Gallagher if an exit becomes more likely.

That isn't to say that they don't have alternative options to the Englishman, though, with links surrounding Atalanta star Ederson becoming very common this week. Dean Jones reported earlier this week that Spurs are increasingly likely to move for the midfielder, and GiveMeSport have another interesting update on their interest in the Brazilian.

Tottenham "certain" Ederson would dazzle under Ange

According to GMS, Tottenham chiefs are "certain" that Ederson would do very well under Postecoglou if they were to seal a deal for him.

The Lilywhites face some competition from the likes of Juventus, but Spurs are believed to hold a "significant advantage" in the race for him given Juve are actually prioritising other targets at this stage.

Atalanta midfielder Ederson

As well as this, the club apparently hold healthy relationships with key figures at Atalanta, who would be pivotal in Tottenham securing a deal for the 24-year-old. Ederson has starred for Atalanta over his Serie A appearances this season, with South American football expert Tim Vickery explaining exactly why they're interested.

"24-years-old, strong, well-built central midfielder. Strong on the ball, versatile, box-to-box. Strong personality as well," said Vickery.

"The first time I remember him was his professional debut really. He was thrown in the deep end in a big team called Cruzeiro, who were really on the slide. They were relegated in dreadful form and even in this bad context, he stood out, so a lot of virtues."
