Barcelona fans react to the the club being linked with Victor Osimhen

It seems that Barcelona have realised that Luis Suarez won’t be able to keep up with the high demands of the club for much longer and for that reason, they are adamant in finding him a long-term replacement.

According to Sport, the new name that just popped out on the radar is the 20-year-old prodigy, Victor Osimhen.

The youngster is currently playing his football in Lille and is having a wonderful season as well.

So far, he has scored eight goals and assisted further two under his belt in a total of 14 games across all competitions, including one goal in the Champions League.

By all accounts, he does look like a big prospect for the future.

But not all Barcelona fans are on the same page when it comes to his potential transfer.

Many of them seemed up for it and would love to see the 20-year-old at the Camp Nou but there were also negative comments as some Cules don’t feel he’s needed, while others don’t trust that Ernesto Valverde would utilise him properly.

Others just have different targets in mind.

You can see their mixed reactions down in the collection of tweets below:

Man City fans slam Ilkay Gundogan after defeat to Wolves

Having seen Liverpool pull eight points clear at the top of the table thanks to a dramatic injury-time victory against Leicester, the pressure was on Manchester City to respond in kind.

Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side however, the Citizens suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday afternoon, and one man who didn’t cover himself in glory, was Ilkay Gundogan.

The German made just one tackle in the entire game, and had no shots on target from central midfield. After seeing the 28-year-old’s lacklustre performance, City fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side slammed his below-pair display, and one fan insisted they would have substituted the midfielder at half-time at the Etihad.

Some Citizens fans criticised him for failing to contribute anything going forward, and remarked that he only played backwards passes in the entire match.

Tottenham fans think Serge Aurier should be sold

According to TutoSport, Tottenham have rejected an approach for Serge Aurier from AC Milan, a decision many supporters don’t understand.

The right-back has been a source of frequent frustration for Spurs this season, getting sent off needlessly against Southampton before a terrible performance against Bayern Munich in a 7-2 Champions League thumping.

As a result, the majority would likely be happy to see him depart in January, provided a more reliable option was brought in, which is why they are confused by reports alleging Spurs have turned down a transfer offer.

Some hold such derisory views of the Cote d’Ivoire international that they say the club should accept 50p for the defender, with one fan suggesting he’d pay the fare to take him away from North London.

Aurier clearly has a lot of work to do to win over the fans, therefore, particularly if the club aims to keep him past the January window.

Here are some of the reactions from supporters to the latest transfer news.

Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson’s goal hides overall poor display

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

Bournemouth came away from Southampton with a fantastic result on Friday night in the south coast derby.

The Cherries went 2-0 up early on thanks to goals from Nathan Ake and Harry Wilson and, although James Ward-Prowse converted a penalty early in the second half, Eddie Howe’s team held their nerve and even added some gloss to the result with a late Callum Wilson finish.

For the former Wilson, it is his third goal in five league matches since joining on loan from Liverpool. Whilst he is clearly showing he has the goalscoring touch in the top tier, the rest of his performance proves that he still has some way to go before earning a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Hitting the back of the net can often hide the poor overall quality of a display, and that was the case with the 22-year-old here. Despite playing on the right of the midfield, a position that demands strong attacking threat, the former Derby County loanee struggled to have any impact on proceedings other than his strike.

Throughout the match, he failed to create a single chance and did not manage to beat his man even on one occasion, while also not attempting a single cross.

His 73.7% passing accuracy was only bettered by Ake amongst his teammates, but one would expect a player of Wilson’s quality to be less careless on the ball. At Anfield, he would be required to find his man an awful lot more than that.

Howe clearly wasn’t overjoyed with his showing, bringing him off for Ryan Fraser with 28 minutes left on the clock. From a Bournemouth perspective, his lack of offensive contribution will not be too much of an issue as they ended up victorious. Klopp, though, will surely have an eye on his player’s progress, and will be wanting to see more from him throughout the rest of the campaign.

Arsenal: Fans call for Unai Emery to be sacked after draw against Manchester United

Some Arsenal fans are calling for Unai Emery’s sacking after the Spaniard led the club to their third draw in their last four Premier League games.

The Gunners drew 1-1 away to Manchester United, following on from draws at home to Tottenham Hotspur and Watford.

Emery has endured a turbulent spell at the helm this campaign, with many doubting the Basque-born manager. Arsenal have conceded 11 goals in their seven Premier League games so far this season, keeping just one clean sheet in the process (via Premier League).

Jamie Carragher gave a frank assessment of the coach on Sky Sport’s coverage of the fixture last night, dubbing Emery a ‘basketball coach’ (Sky Sports via football.london).

Now it seems that some of the fans have had enough of their manager, especially after the performance against the Red Devils last night as they took to Twitter to react.

Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:

Spurs fans question Sky Sports decision to air April games

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur’s four games in April will all air on Sky Sports, the club have confirmed on their official Twitter account.

Spurs play Brighton & Hove Albion, Huddersfield Town and West Ham United at home, while also travelling to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.

And the club have announced that three of those games – Huddersfield, City and the Hammers – will be 12:30 pm kick-offs. The clash with Brighton will start at 4:30 pm.

It remains to be seen whether the home games will be held at Wembley or at the club’s newly-built stadium.

The London Evening Standard reported earlier this week that Spurs are hopeful of playing Brighton on April 6 at their new ground, but the game may well be rescheduled if the Seagulls beat Millwall to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Huddersfield game, the report states, subsequently appears to be the most likely fixture to raise the curtain.

And Spurs fans have reacted to the news of the television picks with cynicism – many believe Sky Sports are trying to air the opening of the new stadium so are hedging their bets, while others are less than enthused about three early kick-offs in a row. Liverpool fans eye seventh CL title as Napoli defeat evokes memories of last season

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool suffered their first defeat since the Community Shield shoot-out on Tuesday as Napoli ran out 2-0 winners in their Champions League opener, but fans aren’t too concerned.

The Reds visited the San Paolo in last year’s group stage and lost the match in similar fashion, with a late goal, but ended the campaign by winning their sixth Champions League title. That fact hasn’t been lost on some of the supporters.

Another who recognised the trend is Carlo Ancelotti, who reportedly said to Jurgen Klopp: “Don’t you worry, if you lose in Naples, then you end up winning the Champions League.”

In general, fans are choosing to be optimistic about their chances despite a lacklustre display, although one fan expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance, which saw them manage only four shots on target.

Given the Reds also lost to PSG and Red Star Belgrade in last year’s group stage and still made it through, it is unlikely this result will trouble fans too much, particularly as they face Red Bull Salzburg next, which is a much more comfortable game on paper despite the Austrian outfit’s 6-2 win on matchday one.

Newcastle: Waugh drops worrying PIF claim

A worrying claim has been made regarding the feeling behind the scenes at Newcastle during the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has provided an insight into how the club have felt their month has gone so far, whilst also revealing that they are far from finished ahead of deadline day.

He tweeted: “‘Frustration’ at business had been building behind the scenes, but progression of Bruno Guimaraes deal is very encouraging (let’s hope it gets done). One of several #NUFC are still looking to conclude, with summits in Saudi.”

Fans will be upset

This news will surely leave Newcastle fans feeling upset with the way PIF have handled their first transfer window at the club. They failed to bring in a full-time sporting director or director of football to come in and execute a well thought-out transfer strategy, instead bringing in Nick Hammond on a short-term deal in December to assist Eddie Howe.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood are the only signings of the window so far, with just over three days left to go before the window slams shut. The worry now is that the Magpies are scrambling around to complete “several” deals – according to Waugh – near deadline day, and that is not a situation the fans would have wanted at the start of January.

In an ideal world, Newcastle could have appointed a sporting director at the start of December and given them a month to work on a plan ahead of January to then be ready to go all-in during the first few weeks. It could have given Howe and the supporters a major lift to have the bulk of the club’s business done in the first half of the month, rather than rushing to bring players in during the final few days in January.

PIF are now in a position where they do not have time to negotiate and bargain with clubs, and that could lead to them overpaying for players or signing the wrong player because they do not have the time to carefully decide who they want to bring in if other targets are unavailable.

This is why Newcastle fans will be upset with the news that there is frustration behind the scenes, as it suggests that PIF have got it wrong this month. The board are seemingly not happy with the way they have handled the transfer window, and supporters could be frustrated by this due to how important January could be in the battle against relegation.

Sunderland manager news on Lennon

Neil Lennon has now dropped an exciting two-word Sunderland manager claim after being linked with the vacant job.

The Lowdown: On the shortlist

As per Sky Sports, Lennon is one of four names on the managerial shortlist, alongside Neil Warnock, Grant McCann and Roy Keane, with the latter even being interviewed already following the departure of Lee Johnson.

Keane himself issued a ‘no comment’ claim when asked about his links to a return to the Stadium of Light, but Lennon has been much more open when recently asked about the vacancy.

The Latest: Lennon intrigued

Speaking on talkSPORT (14:23pm) on Friday afternoon (via Roker Report), Lennon admitted that the Black Cats job is ‘very appealing’ to him:

“It’s very appealing – big club, fantastic fanbase and in a good position in the league.”

The Verdict: Get him in!

While Keane may look like the overwhelming favourite at the moment given his interview, if there was a choice between him and Lennon, then the board should hire the latter.

Having won no fewer than ten trophies at Celtic, including a domestic treble (Transfermarkt), Lennon certainly trumps Keane in this sense, who has no silverware to his name as a manager.

He also massively trumps Keane in terms of his overall win ratio as a coach, having won 58.4% of his matches, while Keane boasts just a 39.8% win rate.

Yes, you could argue that Lennon did not have as much competition managing in Scottish football, but that does not change the ultimate winning mentality that he would bring to SAFC, which they badly need if they are to gain automatic promotion from League One up to the Championship.

West Ham make contact for Golovin

West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Aleksandr Golovin to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Sport Witness, who claim that a source close to the AS Monaco attacking midfielder has revealed that both West Ham and Everton are interested in a move for the 25-year-old this month.

The report goes on to state that David Moyes’ side have made contact with the Ligue 1 side regarding a deal for the Russia international, however, it is also claimed that Monaco are unlikely to want to part with Golovin in the current transfer window – with Russian media outlet Championat suggesting the French side would demand a fee of around €50m (£41m) in order to sanction his sale.

Moyes’ next Lingard

Considering just how impressive Golovin has been for Monaco since his £27m move from CSKA Moscow back in 2018, it is easy to see why West Ham would be interested in a move for the attacking midfielder this month.

Indeed, over his 114 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, the £22.5m-rated man has scored 16 goals and registered 22 assists, with arguably his best season for the Monegasques coming over his 21 league outings last season.

In this campaign, the £78k-per-week forward scored five goals, provided nine assists and created nine big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.8 key passes and taking 1.3 shots per game.

These returns saw the player who Jose Mourinho dubbed a “playmaker” earn a rather astonishing seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.31, not only ranking him as Monaco’s best performer in the league, but also as the sixth-best player in the division as a whole.

Indeed, Golovin’s form in this campaign was not dissimilar from that of Jesse Lingard last season, who, over his 16 Premier League appearances while on loan at West Ham, scored nine goals, registered four assists and created three big chances for his teammates, seeing the 29-year-old earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.19.

Furthermore, both the AS Monaco attacking midfielder and the Manchester United man possess impressive positional versatility, with each player more than capable of operating from either flank or in the number 10 role.

As such, should Moyes be able to get a deal over the line for Golovin this winter, the 58-year-old Hammers manager could very much have the club’s next Lingard on his hands for the second half of the season – something that is undoubtedly an extremely exciting prospect for everyone involved with the club.
