With over a week down in the 2022 January transfer window, Leeds United have been pretty quiet so far when it comes to incoming or outgoing transfer deals.

However, it seems as though the club could be close to agreeing a deal that some Leeds supporters may not be particularly happy about.

What’s the news?

According to a recent Twitter post from Fabrizio Romano, Leeds full-back Cody Drameh is apparently set to join Championship club Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season, describing it as a “done deal.”

Romano also added that Swansea also asked for the defender but he’s going to sign with Cardiff in the coming days and that several Premier League clubs are now monitoring him for next season.

A big risk?

Drameh joined Leeds’ U23 team from Fulham’s U23 side back in August 2020. Since then, the 20-year-old has made 33 appearances for the Yorkshire club’s U23 side, showing how much of a useful attacking force he can be with one goal scored and four assists provided along the way.

The right-back has also made five senior appearances for Leeds, showing that Marcelo Bielsa has not been shy in giving him chances to show what he’s capable of next to some of the more senior players the Argentine has at his disposal.

However, with Leeds only having Luke Ayling, who has been hit with a knee injury this season, and Stuart Dallas, who has had to be deployed in other positions, in their squad as other right-back options it could be a mistake letting Drameh leave halfway through the season in case they get struck down with any more injury issues at the back.

On the other hand, if Drameh were to join a club like Cardiff this month and play regularly for the remainder of the season, this could be a great step for his career development and growth and potentially put him closer to being a regular first-team player at Elland Road.

That said, with the risk of injuries at Leeds a real possibility, letting go of a useful defensive squad option in the hope he has a successful loan spell elsewhere is a massive gamble that could have dire consequences for Leeds if it backfires. As a result, it’s a situation that will leave the Yorkshire club’s supporters sweating heading into the rest of January and beyond if he does indeed leave.

Reports of IPL matches being moved out of Hyderabad have set off a controversy with a senior government official in Andhra Pradesh, of which Hyderabad is the state capital, asking the home side, Deccan Chargers, to boycott the tournament altogether in that eventuality.The state has seen political unrest and violence for the past few weeks in the wake of a separatist movement; Deccan’s first game, the tournament opener, was shifted to Mumbai on the grounds that it needed extra preparation, but four other games are still officially scheduled at Hyderabad.A story published in Wednesday’s , owned by the same group as the cricket franchise, quoted a letter from Andhra Pradesh sports minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to Sharad Pawar, the former BCCI president, guaranteeing maximum security during the tournament and peaceful conduct of the matches.Later in the day, Reddy took a stronger line. “We have requested Deccan Chargers not to play in the IPL if the inaugural match and the remaining four matches are shifted out of Hyderabad,” he told .K Rosaiah, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, also assured “all necessary support” for the peaceful staging of matches and urged Pawar to convincing the IPL organisers to stick to the tournament’s original schedule.”The decision of the IPL governing council to shift the inaugural match to another part of the country has left the cricket-lovers in the state totally disappointed,” Rosaiah wrote in his letter to Pawar. “I request you to intervene personally and use your good offices for organising the IPL 3 matches in Hyderabad in the larger interest of the fans.”When contacted by Cricinfo, PK Iyer, one of the franchise owners, said he had no comments to offer.Concerns over the political situation in Andhra Pradesh have already resulted in the shifting of an ODI between India and Sri Lanka from Visakhapatnam last December, and two ODIS scheduled for Hyderabad, during England women’s tour of India in February-March, have now been split between Bangalore and Mumbai. What’s the word?

That’s according to reliable Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson, who delivered a fresh update on the Yorkshire giants’ plans for their star winger via Twitter, saying: “Leeds plan further talks with Raphinha’s agent Deco after he met Victor Orta twice before Christmas to continue contract talks over a new deal. Leeds have ruled out selling Raphinha this month.”

The 25-year-old dynamo has been linked with a move away from Elland Road for quite some time, with the likes of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals Liverpool two mooted destinations.

Huge news

The fact that the Whites plan on offering Raphinha a new deal and will not look to sell him this month is certainly a massive boost for manager Marcelo Bielsa.

In the absence of some key players, the Brazil international has emerged as one of Leeds’ most important players, especially in the final third. As per WhoScored, he leads the squad for goals scored – finding the net eight times, which is nearly 40% of the team’s total – as well as shots (3.1), dribbles (2.4) and key passes (1.8) per game.

That would indeed suggest that he’s a major influence when it comes to their attacking play.

The £36m-rated star signed a four-year deal following his £17m move from Rennes in October 2020 and has regularly caught the eye.

Leeds’ club-record signing Daniel James has lauded him as a “magician”, whilst fellow teammate Illan Meslier believes he is an “unbelievable player”.

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Phil Hay has previously emphasised just how valuable he is to Bielsa and United’s success, saying: “Phillips is the player whom Leeds miss most but, in an attacking sense, Raphinha is consistently head and shoulders above everyone. Even aside from his touch and his vision, he has the most incredible engine.”

Therefore, on the above evidence, it is going to cause some excitement amongst the Elland Road faithful following this encouraging behind-the-scenes update from Thorp Arch.

It seems as if Raphinha will, at the very least, see out the current campaign in white, thus handing the Yorkshiremen a big boost.

O técnico Dorival Júnior terá algumas prováveis dores de cabeça ao longo desta semana. Com o volante Petros suspenso pelo terceiro cartão amarelo recebido na partida contra o Botafogo, no último fim de semana, o comandante tricolor precisa escolher um substituto para a partida contra o Coritiba, pela 37ª rodada do Brasileirão, no domingo. A solução, mais uma vez, pode estar nos garotos formados na base do próprio clube.

Embora o São Paulo esteja livre da possibilidade do rebaixamento, ainda há uma chance remota de o clube disputar a Copa Libertadores do ano que vem. Por isso, o técnico Dorival Júnior não quer deixar a bola cair e pede empenho e motivação de seus comandados. Ao longo da semana, o treinador deve analisar o desempenho de Lucas Fernandes, Shaylon e Araruna para decidir o substituto de Petros.

Favorito a conquistar a vaga, o Profetinha daria mais qualidade ao setor criativo da equipe no meio de campo. Nessa opção, Hernanes seria recuado e faria a função de Petros, enquanto Lucas Fernandes jogaria mais adiantado, próximo dos atacantes. O fator negativo, no entanto, seria o enfraquecimento da marcação no meio de campo. Além disto, quando Hernanes joga longe da área adversária, seu rendimento costuma cair.

Já com Shaylon no time titular, a situação seria parecida, mas com uma pequena mudança. Embora não tenha o mesmo estilo de seu amigo dos tempos de Cotia, o garoto, de 20 anos, é um armador. Nessa formação, no entanto, o Profeta Hernanes poderia se manter na função de principal articulador e Shaylon faria o auxílio na criação das jogadas. Assim como na possível primeira formação, o time perderia poder de marcação no meio e poderia causar problemas para o setor defensivo.

Por fim, o treinador são-paulino tem a opção de escalar Araruna como volante. Neste caso, Jucilei seria adiantado à segunda linha do meio de campo e o garoto de Cotia seria o responsável por proteger a defesa. Pensando na forma como o time costuma atuar, esta é a opção que menos alteraria a dinâmica de jogo do São Paulo. Contudo, Araruna pouco atuou nessa posição e sua pouca experiência pode pesar contra sua escalação.

Ao longo desta semana, o técnico Dorival Júnior e sua comissão técnica analisarão todas as possibilidades e tomar a melhor decisão para a equipe. Vale lembrar que Petros é titular absoluto do São Paulo nesta temporada e não saía do time desde a 11ª rodada do campeonato, no início de julho.

What’s the talk?

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has reacted to claims that the Gers could make £20m from Champions League qualification by revealing that the figure could actually be much larger than that.

Rangers will qualify for the group stage of the competition if they win the Premiership title, rather than heading into the qualification rounds and potentially dropping into the Europa League.

Maguire told Football Insider: “Pre-[pandemic], they were making about £60m.

“So that is increasing your revenue by a third. That is transformational. When he talks about £20m, that’s a worst-case scenario. You get €2.7m for every victory and €900,000 for every draw. A few good results for Rangers and that £30m becomes £40m.

“Then, if you manage to make the knockouts, £40m can become £50m and so on. That’s enormous. It also has an impact on your UEFA coefficient, so it becomes a virtuous circle.”

Wilson will be buzzing

Ross Wilson will surely be left buzzing by this claim from Maguire as it directly relates to his role at Ibrox. He is tasked with making key decisions on the football side of the club, and having an extra £20m to £50m to spend would have a major impact on his job.

Not only would it broaden his horizons in terms of the level of player he could look to attract to Rangers, it would also mean that more funds are available to retain key players and to improve the club’s facilities. They could provide further funding to the academy and the first team training ground to give Giovanni van Bronckhorst the best possible tools to get 100% from his squad.

Wilson could afford to spend an extra million or so when attempting to seal a transfer, whereas he may be forced to give up on a deal for the same price in current circumstances. It would give him extra leeway in his negotiations and potentially raise the bar on the calibre of signing he can make as a result of the added finances, which could be exciting for him and for Van Bronckhorst.

The Ibrox chief will now be hoping that the Dutchman is able to see the team through to Premiership glory between now and the end of the season to clinch qualification for the group stage of Europe’s top club competition. Wilson will be elated as the prospect of having another £20m to £50m in the bank, while supporters will surely be excited for Champions League football to return to Ibrox…

Fica de olho! Paulo Vitor começou a aparecer para a torcida do Vasco no início de 2017, quando desandou a fazer gols pelo Carioca Sub-20. A comemoração era uma brincadeira entre os amigos da categoria, sugerindo que a direção e a comissão técnica do profissional estavam de olho no garoto. E estava mesmo. No profissional, rapidamente vieram as oportunidades e com boas atuações e sem medo de encarar os marcadores, o jovem caiu rapidamente nas graças da torcida. Feliz com o bom desempenho, ele mira um 2018 ainda melhor.

-Acho que foi um ano muito bom. Tenho que agradecer a Deus, minha família e ao Vasco por me proporcionar isso. Foi um ano que aprendi muito, com alguns erros, alguns acertos. É juntar tudo isso e fazer um 2018 ainda melhor.Quero alcançar meus objetivos no ano que vem. Vou trabalhar mais, focar mais. Quero ter uma sequência boa de jogos e me firmar como titular do Vasco – disse Paulo Vitor, em papo com o LANCE!

Durante a entrevista, Paulo Vitor mostra que é um jovem agitado. E pra acalmar ele, estavam presentes os pais Denilson e Rosane, além da irmã Nathane. Pouco depois, o também atacante Denilson (que herdou o nome do pai e jogou no São Paulo no último Brasileirão) apareceu. E foi graças a ele que PV começou a carreira, como conta o pai:

– O Denilson fazia escolinha e eu levava o Paulo Vitor. Teve um dia que um menino faltou e chamaram ele pra completar. No primeiro domínio já viram que ele era diferente. No fim do treino, um dos professores me chamou e perguntou se podia levar ele para algumas peneiras. Eu autorizei.

E foi com oito anos que a história de Paulo Vitor começou no Vasco. Onze anos depois (uma passagem polêmica pelo Fluminense no meio) e como uma das promessas do profissional, ele sonha em fazer uma grande Libertadores pelo Cruz-Maltino junto de outras joias da Colina:

– Acho que nós, que viemos da base, temos uma identificação maior porque vivemos o clube. A maior parte da infância foi lá dentro, convivendo com pessoas que fazem e fizeram parte da história do clube. Isso é muito importante. Colocamos tudo isso dentro de campo, fizemos o melhor e ajudamos a alcançar os objetivos que foram traçados. Os mais experientes também nos ajudaram muito.

E com os jogadores indo cada vez mais cedo para a Europa, Paulo Vitor admite o sonho de atuar no Velho Continente. No entanto, a vontade de fazer história e retribuir o que o Vasco já fez por ele não é esquecida:

​- Todo jogador novo, que tem sonhos, sonha em jogar na Europa, ter uma vida estabilizada. Mas não penso nisso ainda. Para chegar lá, tenho que ir bem no Vasco. Quero buscar títulos aqui, fazer grandes jogos. Viver primeiro o clube que me criei, retribuir tudo que eles fizeram para eu virar profissional. As propostas, se chegarem, serão estudadas, mas quem decide isso é o Vasco.

Foi opção do Zé Ricardo. Não é o ideal pra mim, mas 2017 foi muito bom, não tenho do que reclamar. Tudo serve de aprendizado. É continuar trabalhando e melhorando.

LAMBRETA: ‘SE TIVER QUE FAZER DE NOVO, VOU FAZER’

Um dos lances que marcou Paulo Vitor nesta curta carreira como profissional foi a lambreta que tentou para cima dos defensores do Botafogo, na vitória por 1 a 0 do Vasco, no Brasileirão. Cobrado na ocasião pelos adversários, o atacante mostra que vai continuar fazendo se tiver novas oportunidades:

-O lance não foi pra provocar ninguém do Botafogo. Foi em busca do gol, improviso, um recurso. No momento, quando os jogadores do Botafogo vieram, os meus companheiros pediram pra eu ir pra cima de novo. Essa confiança, esse apoio é muito importante. Se tiver que fazer de novo, eu vou fazer. Independente de ser lambreta, elástico, pedalada… são recursos, sem essa de provocação.

O grupo é muito bom. Nos fechamos em busca de um objetivo e graças a Deus conseguimos. Tem aquela adaptação, o processo de transição foi tranquilo.

FÃ DE ROMÁRIO, IMPERADOR E INSPIRAÇÃO EM GABRIEL JESUS

Uma das inspirações de Paulo Vitor é o atual camisa 9 da Seleção Brasileira, Gabriel Jesus. Com estilos parecidos, o vascaíno teve uma história parecida com a do atacante do City. Apesar de não ser muito alto, começou a ser utilizado como centroavante. E disse que joga aonde precisar:

-O início da minha adaptação para jogar como centroavante foi no juvenil. Me inspirei muito nele (Gabriel Jesus), ficava olhando os vídeos, as movimentações, posicionamento dele. Acho que tenho um estilo parecido, muita força, velocidade… gosto de jogar naquela posição. Mas não tenho problema em definir uma posição ou outra. Jogo de centroavante, de lado, já atuei na meia, lateral, goleiro. Eu tenho até troféu de goleiro em campeonato de base, pode perguntar para os meus pais. Mas eu não cresci, aí fui pra frente (risos).

Perguntado sobre quem são seus ídolos, Paulo Vitor lembra de dois nomes bastante conhecidos da torcida carioca:

-O Romário é um deles. O Adriano Imperador, esse eu sou muito fã. Gabriel Jesus, que se firmou muito rápido no profissional. Também gosto muito do Willian, do próprio Neymar, o meu irmão (Denilson, que esteve no São Paulo no último Brasileirão) que é muito importante, é um exemplo que tenho dentro de casa, me dá muitos conselhos.

Quando comecei a fazer muitos gols, eles começaram a ficar falando: “fica de olho”, “daqui a pouco o homem está lá em cima”. Inventaram a comemoração, eu fiz num jogo, a torcida gostou e marcou.

CONSELHOS DO IRMÃO DENILSON

Paulo Vitor é irmão do também atacante Denilson, que disputou o último Campeonato Brasileiro pelo São Paulo. E diz que a relação com o irmão é boa. As conversas e conselhos do mais velho, que já passou por Fluminense, Granada (ESP),Neftchi (Azebaijão), Avaí e São Paulo.

-São quatro anos de diferença. A gente conversa muito, é mais aquela experiência que ele já teve. Ele já esteve no alto, em baixa, no alto de novo. Ele procura dividir isso comigo, isso é muito importante pra mim – diz o mais novo, endossado pelo irmão mais experiente:

-Nossa relação não é tão próxima. Apesar de termos a mesma profissão, a distância acaba atrapalhando a nossa convivência. O que posso falar dele é que é um jogador que procura ir pra cima, que o Brasil está precisando com essas características. É um jogador que cumpre muito bem as ordens técnica e táticas. A oportunidade que ele teve esse ano, ele soube aproveitar. O que tento aconselhar a ele é para ele não cometer os erros que cometi, o futebol pune, a bola pune e creio que ele vá brilhar muito em 2018. É um jogador que tem muito a dar pro Vasco e pra Seleção Brasileira.

Nós temos que olhar a nossa varanda. Já conquistamos o nosso objetivo. Se for pra jogar a pré-Libertadores, vamos jogar. Se for pra jogar a fase de grupos, nós vamos jogar também. Estamos preparados e com o ojetivo de fazer um bom campeonato.

DUELO DE PASSINHO COM PAQUETÁ E VINÍCIUS JR

Além dos dribles e dos gols, Paulo Vitor também mostra outra habilidade nos vídeos dos bastidores do Vasco: a de dançar funk. Questionado pela reportagem se existe uma rivalidade com os jovens Paquetá e Vinícius Jr, do rival Flamengo, que também fazem o passinho, PV brinca:

-Aqui no Vasco tem eu, tem o Alan… No Flamengo tem o Paquetá, o Vinícius Júnior, eles fazem muito também. Mas é mais na hora da brincadeira, não tem essa rivalidade não. Se tivesse um duelo, acho que ia dar Vasco (risos).
