Michael Hussey believes his improved results since the end of the Ashes series should gain him a start in the first Test of the Australian summer. With a big push for Phillip Hughes and uncertainty over Shane Watson’s role as an opener, Hussey’s place has been under heavy scrutiny for the opening game against West Indies from November 26.However, Hussey’s excellent one-day series in India, where he scored 313 runs at 104.33, has given him confidence and he is one of seven players who have been rested from next week’s Sheffield Shield matches. The move indicates the selectors want Hussey and the rest of the group to have a break before the first Test. Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Johnson, Ben Hilfenhaus, Peter Siddle, Shane Watson and Nathan Hauritz will not feature in the state games following the heavy schedule during their winter.While the team was in India Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said deciding on Hussey’s future would be one of the most difficult calls, but his stance has softened as the batsman’s performances have improved. “I think scoring a hundred in my last Test [at The Oval] hopefully helps, and scoring runs on this tour hopefully really helps as well,” Hussey told AAP. “But certainly my results haven’t been as I would have liked in the last 12 months.”There’s always going to be speculation if you’re not putting performances on the board. I feel like, in the last few months, I have been able to put performances on the board, so hopefully that stands up well for the selectors.”Hussey expects his position to be analysed closely by Hilditch and his panel. “I just hope that they retain the faith in me,” he said, “and I hope I can repay them if selected.”Tom Moody, the Western Australia coach, was shocked by the decision to rest Hussey and Mitchell Johnson from their Sheffield Shield game against Victoria on Tuesday. “They haven’t played a longer form of the game since the last Test match in England, so it’s a significant difference in batting and bowling and standing in the field for potentially a day-and-a-half,” Moody said. “You need that condition.”

The 31-year-old midfielder, who left Liverpool on a free transfer to join Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, has found regular game-time hard to come by and could be shipped out on loan as a result, with the north Londoners keen, according to 90min.

It’s thought that half of the Premier League have been offered his services, including Spurs’ arch-rivals Arsenal, Saudi-backed Newcastle United and the likes of West Ham, Aston Villa and Leicester City.

The £27m-rated dynamo would not be short on options, should the former Spurs boss sanction his departure.

Capped 85 times by the Netherlands, Wijnaldum is a vastly experienced option in the English top-flight, having racked up 217 appearances in the competition across spells with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and the Magpies.

He has also made 86 appearances across UEFA’s European competitions, most notably winning the Champions League against the Lilywhites in the 2019 final, when he played over an hour and completed 100% of his passes.

The idea of pairing the Dutch veteran alongside a young talent like Oliver Skipp is surely on Antonio Conte’s mind, not at least because he’s reportedly a big fan of the PSG midfielder.

Before his departure from Anfield, the Italian head coach was said to be ‘crazy’ about signing him for Inter Milan in the summer, as per FcInterNews (via Sport Witness).

Meanwhile, it’s hardly a surprise, given his qualities seem a surefire fit for a Conte system.

“I have no words for Gini’s performances and quality,” former Liverpool and Netherlands star Ryan Babel told Liverpoolfc.com. “He’s an incredible person.  His energy is incredible, he has lungs for days. You can tell when he has the confidence, he’s really unbeatable and very hard to play against.”

Even despite only starting ten of his 20 appearances for PSG this season, Wijnaldum has still provided three goals and one assist, whilst his box-to-box qualities are reflected by the fact that he has averaged two total dribbles, 1.5 shots and 1.1 successful tackles per 90 throughout the course of his career, via WhoScored.

That makes him an even better fit for Conte’s system in north London as he’s capable of linking the midfield to the attack, whilst someone like Skipp sits a little deeper.

A pena para este caso é de multa entre R$ 100 e R$ 100 mil reais. Se a situação for considerada grave, o clube ainda corre o risco de perder até dez mandos de campo.

Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner, recently appointed team manager for the tour to Australia, has said he hopes to instill in the squad a sense of the pride with which they dominated world cricket in the past. Garner, also a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) director and president of the Barbados Cricket Association, will travel with the side to Australia for their three-Test tour of Australia.”There are some things that are non-negotiable, things like discipline, punctuality and I think that players know and understand that there are some things that are not negotiable, the way we approach our cricket, the way how we train, all of those things will come back into force,” he said.”The West Indies team that we had that was a good West Indies team of the 70s and 80s was not all talent. We were successful because we worked hard and we took the time out to do the things that were right and to bring the cricket up.”Garner aimed to make a difference on the tour in an attempt to revive West Indies cricket whichhas faltered, more especially over the past two decades, through weak leadership and general mismanagement. “I’m looking at bring back some of those values that made us great, back into the team,” he said. “The first thing you have to do is start talking and let them understand what it takes to get to the top. You don’t just really want to make the squad, you want to make the team and you want to keep working, you want to keep performing.”Chris Gayle was recently reappointed to lead the team, marking the end of the contractual dispute between the striking players and the WICB. Garner said the time had come to forget the bitter contractual row and strive to put West Indies back at the top of the cricketing map.”What is happening in world cricket [is[ there are divisions where you have four or five world teams who are at the top and they want to go it alone and they want to play more cricket between themselves because they have the bargaining power,” he said. “We have to understand we have to get from the position of number eight to be in those top four to be a force to be reckoned with in world cricket.”The time to put aside all the nonsense [has come] and [we have] to look forward in a positive way. If you are only going to come to the party and not participate in the party then you’re in the wrong sport.”Senior players such as Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo also returned to the squad for the three-Test series following the strike, while youngsters such as Adrian Barath, Kemar Roach and Gavin Tonge made the cut as well. For Garner, 56, one challenge was to ensure team unity.”We have a challenging period ahead with the merging of the fellows who played during the strike and those fellows who were on strike,” he said. “It is going to be a challenge to sort of get everything working smoothly and get them to play competitive cricket while we are in Australia.”That’s what is going to take most of the time and when we talk about the players who were playing and those who went on strike, this is where they need to understand they need to move on. We have to look at the future of West Indies cricket we have to look at what is happening in world cricket.”

Even though Leeds United have had eight different players scoring in the Premier League so far this season, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have only managed 15 goals in as many league games, 10 goals fewer than they had at the same point last season.

Taking this into account, it seems as though the club could do with a bit of a boost in terms of their creative and attacking power on the pitch.

With the January transfer window approaching, the Whites being previously linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley back in November and the fact that journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed recently that the midfielder is on a list of transfer targets at Leeds, this could be exactly what they need to turn their season around and bring a bit of extra attacking depth to the squad.

After completing a loan spell with Aston Villa last season, where he scored three goals and provided one assist in 24 outings, the 28-year-old has found regular game-time back at Chelsea hard to come by this season, with just eight appearances across all competitions under his belt, starting only twice.

Labelled a “tremendous” player by former Villa manager Dean Smith, Barkley averaged 1.5 shots at goal and 1.6 key passes per game in his 26 Premier League appearances last season across Chelsea and Villa.

With this in mind and Barkley, who is currently picking up £100k-per-week at Stamford Bridge according to Salary Sport, having a lot of Premier League experience with 230 appearances, 28 goals and 31 assists at that level, he could offer Leeds a lot on the pitch in an attacking sense.

Looking ahead to January, if Victor Orta can convince Barkley to make the move to Elland Road with the promise of regular game-time, the 28-year-old definitely seems to have what it takes to revolutionise Bielsa’s side and turn their season around after an underwhelming start by potentially giving them a fresh creative and attacking outlet on the pitch.

Also, with Leeds only having three players in their senior squad who predominantly play in the central midfield position, it would be a good idea to secure Barkley’s signature to add some depth in that area of the pitch in case any of their current options pick up injuries throughout the rest of the campaign.

Crystal Palace shared footage of Conor Gallagher’s match-winning screamer on their official Twitter channel on Sunday night.

The Chelsea loanee was in terrific form in the Eagles’ 3-1 win against Everton, with the youngster scoring twice to seal an important three points for the south Londoners. SofaScore awarded him their player of the match with a tremendous 9.6 rating, blowing everyone else out of the water.

The 21-year-old midfielder’s electric form has seen him amass six goals and three assists in 15 Premier League games this season, making him Palace’s top scorer and assists provider.

Eagles manager Patrick Viera has been hugely impressed with Gallagher since his arrival and has said that ‘it’s a joy’ to work with him.

After consistently showing his quality, not least with his stupendous stoppage time goal against the Toffees, many Palace fans have called on the club to sign the 21-year-old from Chelsea on a permanent deal.
