According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds United have had a €15m (£13.7m) offer for SPAL striker Andrea Petagna rejected, and a closer look at the 24-year-old last season suggests he shares one of current Whites striker Patrick Bamford’s worst habits.

Tutto Mercato Web report that the Yorkshire outfit will need to significantly raise their bid – to €25m (£22.8m) – if they are to have any chance of prising the centre-forward away from the side that only signed him this summer themselves from Atalanta.

While there is no doubting Petagna’s record in front of goal after he scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A matches last term – an impressive tally in one of Europe’s strongest leagues – a closer look at his statistics in 2018/19 shows that he has his shortcomings, too.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men look to be in need of some competition or even an upgrade for the likes of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford before the transfer window slams shut next Thursday, with the former also set to sit out the opening weeks of the campaign because of injury.

Leeds would be buying the Italian for his goal threat, but in many ways he seems to be similar to Bamford in terms of style of play – the duo contributed just three assists between them in 59 league appearances last time out for example.

One of the things that may frustrate the Elland Road faithful most about the man they signed from Middlesbrough is his carelessness on the ball, given he committed an average of 3 bad touches per outing in the Championship in 2018/19, while also being dispossessed on 1.2 occasions according to WhoScored.

Remarkably, Petagna’s record for the latter is actually exactly twice as bad, while he had 2.3 poor touches on average himself.

While he may be a proven goal-getter, it suggests that the Trieste-born striker would arrive at Elland Road with his fair share of potentially infuriating attributes as well.

Considering his reported price tag, Leeds would surely be better off looking elsewhere if they do want to strengthen their frontline before the deadline.

وأضاف: “عن مطالبة الزمالك بركلة جزاء للاعب أحمد سيد زيزو،  قرار صحيح باستئناف اللعب، تدخل عادي ولا يوجد ركلة جزاء”.

وواصل: “احتساب الخطأ من داخل منطقة جزاء الاتحاد بسبب التقاط حارس المرمى الكرة العائدة من زميله بيده، كان هناك منافسة بين لاعب الزمالك والاتحاد، إبراهيم نور الدين لم يصفر بخطأ إلا بعد تحرك الحارس أربع خطوات، وأعتقد أنه إحتسب خطأ بسبب ضغط لاعبي الزمالك”.

واستكمل: “لا أرى سببًا لإلغاء هدف الزمالك الذي سجله محمود عبد الرازق شيكابالا.. لا أرى سببا للخطأ واحتساب مخالفة إطلاقًا، بل لو هناك مخالفة ستكون على مدافع الاتحاد وليس محمود علاء، نصيحتي للحكام طالما اتخذت قرارًا سواء صحيح أو خطأ لا تحاول تصحيحه في كرة أخرى”.

واختتم: “إبراهيم نور الدين تصرف بشكل خاطئ عندما أعطى أحد أفراد الجهاز المعاون إنذارًا أثناء مشاهدة (الفار).. هو خرج ليشاهد اللعبة، ولا يوجد قانون في كرة القدم أن يترك الحكم شاشة (الفار) ويعاقب أحدًا بإنذار ثم يعود ليشاهد!”.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Ornstein says that the Yorkshire outfit are pushing hard for the youngster, who is also attracting interest from Bristol City and Fortuna Dusseldorf among others.

The BBC Sport correspondent says that the Whites are hopeful that the fact that Orta has close links with fellow Spaniard Emery, as well as the 20-year-old being viewed as playing a prominent role following Kemar Roofe’s departure to Anderlecht, could swing things in their favour.

Nketiah has three goals in 19 first-team appearance for Arsenal with a prolific record of 28 goals in 38 outings for the U23 side, while he has featured regularly during their pre-season campaign.

Orta has chance to come up trumps

It’s fair to say that many Leeds supporters on Twitter have been frustrated by the club’s lack of transfer business in key areas this summer, with a concern of what could happen if injuries strike their small squad.

Of course, Roofe and Pontus Jansson have both left with only the inexperienced Ben White, who made his Championship debut on Sunday, coming in to replace them as of yet, which has left the Yorkshire team short of depth in two key positions.

Leeds fans haven’t been afraid to show their disapproval of Orta in the past, and all of the club’s first-team signings so far this summer have been on loan – even if they will pay £15m for Helder Costa when his temporary move becomes permanent next summer.

However, if the Spaniard can use his contacts to bring an exciting young attacker in Nketiah to Elland Road before Thursday’s deadline, he would really come up trumps for the Whites. Speaking on talkSPORT, former England international Stuart Pearce has revealed Tottenham have the talent to “hurt” Manchester City in their clash on Saturday.

What did he say?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side got off to a great start in the Premier League after beating newly-promoted Aston Villa 3-1 at home. However, they face a tough task in just their second game of the season when they take on reigning title holders City.

Despite seeing Pep Guardiola’s side demolish West Ham 5-0, Pearce believes Spurs have all the right tools to cause City major problems at the Etihad.

He said: “I think Tottenham will be expected to do more than to just ‘be patient’. They’ll be going there with more than just an expectation of a mid-table team just to shut up shop.

“Listen, they got to the Champions League final last year! So there’s no reason why they can’t rival them. They are expected to rival Man City and Liverpool this season and improve on what they did last year. And they’ve got enough talent – Eriksen is immense – in their ranks to hurt Man City, there’s no doubt about that.”

Will it be enough?

Despite clinching victory in their opening fixture, it was anything but smooth sailing for Spurs. The north London side were trailing for a large portion of the game, and needed touches of inspiration from Tanguy Ndombele and Eriksen to turn things around. Pochettino’s side certainly have the attacking weapons to cause City trouble, but the real defining question will be whether they can keep things tight at the back.

Guardiola’s men appeared to be firing on all cylinders against West Ham, and Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick was very ominous indeed. Despite the injury to Leroy Sane, City possess so much quality in the final third that it will be an incredibly difficult task for Spurs to try and keep them out. But, with it being so early on in the season, perhaps Pochettino and his team can spring a surprise in Manchester.

Well there you have it folks. After an impressive start to the season from Unai Emery’s Arsenal, we now know exactly where the Spaniard’s Gunners revolution stands.

There has been clear improvement from last season, with two wins to start the campaign and just one goal conceded, but the trip to Anfield was always going to be telling.

The 3-1 defeat revealed exactly how big the chasm still is between the teams chasing the top-four and the teams chasing the title, after Liverpool and Manchester City finished 25 and 26 points clear of the chasing pack last term.

The Gunners were left in the dust by Mohamed Salah in particular in the second half of Saturday’s defeat, and this image of the Egyptian prancing off after slotting his second past Bernd Leno perfectly sums up the evening on Merseyside.

The difference in emotion between Leno and Salah couldn’t be any clearer, and perfectly captures the tale of Saturday’s clash.

Emery’s side were outworked and outclassed by the European champions, who once again stamped their authority on a ‘big six’ rival and reminded us all that this season could very well be another two-horse race.
