Australia will start the defence of their Men’s T20 World Cup title against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand at the SCG in a rematch of last year’s final, while India and Pakistan will face each other at the MCG in their opening fixtures. Those were among the standout contests in the fixtures’ list for the 2022 T20 World Cup, which was announced on Friday. The tournament begins on October 16, with Sri Lanka facing Namibia in Geelong in the first round before the Super 12s start on October 22 in Sydney. While Australia vs New Zealand is the opening game of the round, the India-Pakistan fixture will take place on October 23.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

On three days, during the Super 12s, there will be three games taking place. These are all Group 2 games, which has Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and two teams coming through from the first round of matches. The days in question are October 27, when two matches will be played in Sydney and one in Perth, then October 30, when two matches are scheduled to be held in Perth and one in Brisbane, and finally November 6, when Adelaide will host two matches and Melbourne one.The two semi-finals will be held in Sydney (November 9) and Adelaide (November 10) before the final at the MCG on November 13.In Group one of the Super 12s, Australia are alongside New Zealand, England, Afghanistan plus the winner of the Group A qualifiers and the runner-up in Group B.Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch said knowing the groups so far out does help with planning, but it doesn’t make it any easier as Australia looks to defend their title on home soil.”Our planning was ultra-detailed last time,” Finch said at the MCG on Friday. “Knowing what the groups look like eight, nine months out is really helpful because it can help your level of detail in that planning phase. It’s a tough group though. They’re both tough, and when you throw in qualifiers like West Indies, Sri Lanka, you’ve got to play really well to get out of the group stage.”Two global qualifiers will determine the final teams that will head to Australia. Matches will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.Australia won the title for the first time last November when they beat New Zealand by eight wickets in Dubai. Mitchell Marsh was Player of the Match for his unbeaten 77 off 50 balls.

Kane Williamson hopeful of recovery from elbow injury before IPL 2022

New Zealand and SRH captain says surgey is “an absolute last resort” on his troublesome elbow

Kane Williamson’s recovery from his long-standing elbow problem is progressing slowly•BCCI

New Zealand and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson is hopeful of being fit for IPL 2022. The 31-year-old has opted against surgery for a long-standing elbow injury and is instead undergoing rehab now.Williamson had come into IPL 2021 on the back of the elbow injury that had sidelined from the ODI series at home against Bangladesh. Williamson was not fit enough for selection in the early exchanges of the first leg of IPL 2021 in India, with Trevor Bayliss, then the Sunrisers coach, saying Williamson needed a “little bit of extra time to get his match fitness”.Williamson, however, returned to action for Sunrisers’ fourth game last season, against Punjab Kings at Chepauk. He then replaced David Warner as captain midway through the season after the side suffered five defeats in six games. Sunrisers eventually finished bottom, with a mere three wins in 14 matches last year.More recently, Williamson was retained by Sunrisers for INR 14 crore, ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. However, the elbow injured had flared up in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in the UAE, where Williamson cut short his stints at the nets to manage the injury. Later, it troubled him in India as well. He sat out the second Test in Mumbai, with Tom Latham taking over as captain in his place. Williamson subsequently missed the home Test series against Bangladesh, and will miss the forthcoming Test series against South Africa as well.Related

Stead on Williamson's elbow: Surgery 'unlikely', but rehab could take 'sustained period'

Although no timeframe has been set for his return to competitive cricket, Williamson is cautiously optimistic of recovering in time at some point during the white-ball series against Netherlands in March-April, which could precede IPL 2022.”All the conversations, certainly with New Zealand cricket and Sunrisers who are aware of this…I’ve had it [elbow injury] for a long time now, so this period of time is to try and get it right. I guess the timing of this period is sort of dictated by injury,” Williamson said. “It is progressing, which is a good thing, and there’s still quite a bit of time between now and then, or now and some of the Netherlands games perhaps. There’s nothing definite, but it is progressing. So I’m hopeful that I’ll be back on the field as soon as possible.”Last [IPL] season was an example as well, where I wasn’t involved initially and it was elbow-related as well. The franchise was great and supportive of it. I’m optimistic that it will continue to improve. The [T20] format, in particular, is slightly more friendly to managing the load. So, we will wait and see, but it is taking steps forward, which is positive.”‘Cutting it off -thought about it a few times’
Williamson expressed it frustration at the lengthy injury layoff but pointed out that undergoing surgery would be the “last resort”. Head coach Gary Stead had echoed Williamson’s reviews recently, saying surgery was unlikely.”Cutting it off – thought about it a few times,” Williamson said. “From what I can gather and certainly talking to the professionals is that it doesn’t promise; it’s sort of an absolute last resort and after, if there’s a real requirement of rehab and specific loading because it sort of doesn’t promise… This [rehab] is without a doubt the more preferred option at this point of time and hopefully the one that works and gets rid of it. It is tracking in the right direction.”Williamson said that he had originally planned to return to action for the Test series at home against South Africa, which begins from February 17, but the slow recovery has delayed his comeback.”I think it’s progressing. It has been very slow,” he said. “It has been frustrating, but certainly putting in the time and effort into the rehab and a very gradual loading sort of a batting schedule as well because clearly in the last sort of a year and a bit, I have tried to learn as much as I can about it. And it has been a very frustrating time really – one of the more frustrating periods in my career where it’s essentially not something that’s broken but something that’s more disruptive than anything to my body.”In my mind without a doubt, the South African series was something that I was targeting despite the medical team not being as optimistic, but I sort of felt things could progress quickly. Everyone seems to have a different story with this sort of injury, so I was certainly hopeful but it is not to be. It was a tough pill to be honest because missing any game – certainly Test cricket for me are the ones that you never want to miss.”Williamson said he also reached out to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Steven Smith and his former IPL team-mate Manish Pandey – who have all dealt with elbow injuries.”[I spoke to] a number of different people with different thoughts and ways to get rid of it,” he said. “We tried a bunch of different things but hopefully one or two of them work. At the end of day, it’s putting in time.”

Nosso foco é igual seja contra quem for, seja onde for.

Their own Fernandes: Dyche must unleash Everton’s "magic" star

Everton take on Manchester United this weekend as they look to end their four-game winless run which stretches back to the middle of October.

The Toffees occupy 15th place in the Premier League table, just a couple of points off the drop zone, but they face a massive challenge at Old Trafford today.

Indeed, Ruben Amorim secured his first win in charge of United during the Europa League clash in midweek, and he will be keen to keep up the momentum.

One player who Everton must watch out for is Bruno Fernandes, who can cause all sorts of problems for their backline.

Why Bruno Fernandes will be a danger

Across 12 Premier League games this season, Fernandes has scored twice and registered three assists while creating eight big chances. Under Amorim, the Portuguese gem should be able to take his game to new heights, both domestically and in Europe.

Against Bodo/Glimt, the midfielder tended to drift to the left wing during the game, where he made one key pass, had five shots in total and took 95 touches. He may not have got on the scoresheet, but there was no denying how impressive his performance was.

The Everton defence will need to be at their very best to combat him this afternoon. If they can, the club could secure a positive result.

At the other end of the pitch, Sean Dyche might just have his own version of Fernandes in Dwight McNeil, who has operated as a number ten to great effect this season.

Everton's answer to Bruno Fernandes

Dyche decision to utilise McNeil as an attacking midfielder has been rewarded with some excellent performances, with the former Burnley man single-handedly keeping Everton above the drop zone.

Three goals and three assists have been registered in the top flight, while the Englishman has also created eight big chances and averaged 2.7 key passes per game, which is more than Fernandes, who averages 2.1 key passes each match.

In terms of dribbles, McNeil also leads the way over the United sensation, averaging 1.6 dribbles per game to just 0.8 for Fernandes, signifying just how good he has been in the Premier League this season.

The £25k-per-week star is vital to how Everton play and Dyche must continue to unleash him just behind the main striker, especially with the destruction he can cause.

Journalist Joe Thomas previously hailed McNeil as “magic” in 2022 when Frank Lampard was in charge of the Merseyside outfit. Under Dyche, however, McNeil has taken his game to new heights this season.

Without him, the Toffees would certainly be lower than where they currently find themselves and if McNeil is on form against the Red Devils, Amorim’s first league match at Old Trafford might just be a difficult one to negotiate.

Celtic and Rodgers want to sign two attackers in January with cash to spend

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are eyeing two new attacking signings when the January transfer window opens, according to a fresh transfer claim.

Latest Celtic news

The Hoops return to Scottish Premiership action this weekend, following their respectable 1-1 draw at home to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Celtic welcome Ross County to Parkhead as they look to continue their table-topping form, with a two-point lead over Aberdeen currently and a game in hand. Victory is to be expected for Rodgers’ men, considering their opponents are eighth in the table, but the hosts must not take them for granted, showing ruthlessness in the title race instead.

In terms of transfer rumours, highly-rated young Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller continues to be linked with a move to the Hoops, but Newcastle United and Rangers are believed to be providing competition, too.

Celtic and their biggest rivals are also reportedly locking horns to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson in January, with a loan move for the Republic of Ireland mooted. Despite being seen as a young player with a massive future in the game, his playing time has been limited this season, with only one Premier League start coming his way.

Celtic eyeing two attacking signings in January

According to reliable reporters of The Daily Mail Stephen McGowan, John McGarry and Paul Forsyth, Celtic want to sign a left-sided attacking player and a third-choice striker in the January window, as Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options.

The update states that the Hoops have “£77million burning a hole in their bank account”, with cash there to spend midway through the season.

This is an update that will excite Celtic supporters, not least the financial aspect, which suggests that they are in a healthy situation in that department currently. The Hoops already have great attacking depth at their disposal, but bringing in a new winger and striker will only increase their chances of having a season to remember.

As the report points out, these two additions wouldn’t necessarily be seen as guaranteed starters, by any means, with the likes of Daizen Maeda and James Forest strong left-sided options already, and Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah great choices for Rodgers leading the line.

These new signings would allow Rodgers to rotate more as a busy season goes on, however, allowing players to remain fresh well into the campaign, hopefully across all competitions.

While winning yet another Scottish Premiership title is clearly hugely important for Celtic, their main aim has to be to reach the Champions League knockout rounds. They sit in 20th place after five matches in the competition this season, accumulating eight points in that time, which would be good enough to seal a place in the playoffs, as things stand.

It's not Kuhn or Maeda: Celtic may have unearthed the new Jota

Celtic could have stumbled across their next Jota

Missing out on them entirely and finishing in the bottom-12 places would be a huge shame at this point, and fresh faces in the New Year could only aid the Hoops in their quest.

After trumping New Zealand, young Darcie Brown gung-ho about 'awesome challenge' against West Indies

But she isn’t assured of a place in Australia’s starting XI with Meg Lanning likely to choose between her and a spinner at Basin Reserve

Darcie Brown was the toast of the town in Australia’s win over New Zealand•Getty Images

Fresh from a stunning 3 for 22 that destroyed the New Zealand top order and led Australia to a third win on the spin, teenage quick Darcie Brown is keyed up for the next World Cup outing, against West Indies on Tuesday.Brown was ruthless against New Zealand on Sunday, taking the wickets of Suzie Bates, Amelia Kerr and Frances Mackay in a match-defining spell. Her favourite wicket was that of Kerr, who she had caught in the slips courtesy an athletic leap from Beth Mooney. “Moons’ catch was pretty special. It was a pretty big screamer and the girls were up and about,” Brown said of the moment.Related

Brown’s last wicket left New Zealand 35 for 5 and Australia eventually scripted to a 141-run win – their second-biggest-ever win margin in ODIs over New Zealand. It was a fine return from Brown, especially given her poor none for 40 off six overs against England that led to her sitting out Australia’s win over Pakistan.”During the Pakistan match, I had a bit of a bowl, a bit of a trundle with Ben Sawyer, our bowling coach,” she said. “He helped me with a few tips and cues to bowl to try and go a bit fuller, and, I guess, swing it a bit more… that put me in good stead for that New Zealand match.”And her team-mates were glowing in their reviews. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Darce bowl that well,” Ash Gardner said, while Ellyse Perry said Brown did “amazingly well”.Even Brown was surprised. “I felt like I was in pretty good control with the ball. I don’t usually feel like that,” she said. “It’s probably up there with how I felt with control and rhythm and, I guess, pace.”Next up are West Indies, who have beaten New Zealand and England, but arrive at Basin Reserve off a big loss to India.”It’d be an awesome challenge. We played against them in a practice match, and [Deandra Dottin] whacked me around a little bit,” she said. However, Brown’s selection isn’t assured, given her age – 19 – and the riches available to captain Meg Lanning. Against New Zealand, the skipper made the tough call to leave out the world’s No. 1-ranked ODI bowler Jess Jonassen in favour of pace.”We had a really tough selection… JJ missed out and she’s a world-class bowler, and has done extremely well for us for a long time,” Lanning said. “We felt that extra pace option was the way to go. It worked today but on another day it might not.”Brown said she would understand whichever way the call went. “I want to play every single game,” she said. “But with the path of young fast bowlers there’s been a fair few injuries. When management say I need a rest you’ve just got to trust them and know it’s in your best interest.”
