Southampton must sign £10m Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel if they stay up

According to reports by Football.London, Chelsea are ready to sell attacking midfielder Marco van Ginkel for £10m this summer, and Southampton must look to take advantage.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Football.London says that despite the fact the Dutchman only signed a new contract with the west London outfit before extending his loan with PSV Eindhoven last summer, the Blues are ready to cash in on a player they bought for £8m from Vitesse Arnhem five years ago.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a standout season in the Eredivisie for PSV as they won the league title, but despite wanting the former Stoke City loanee on a permanent deal, Football.London says they have baulked at the £10m asking price.

Meanwhile, Southampton, who have been linked with a move for Celtic duo Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele, boosted their Premier League survival chances by beating Bournemouth 2-1 at St Mary’s on Saturday, and they could be in for a busy summer transfer window whichever division they find themselves in next term.

How has Van Ginkel done this season?

He has been brilliant.

The Netherlands international has scored 16 goals and provided a further five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for PSV this term, despite playing the majority of those games in a central midfield position.

The 6ft 1in Dutchman has also shown that he can be strong in the air by winning 87 of the 157 aerial duels he has faced in 27 Eredivisie outings during the current campaign, as per WhoScored.com.

Would he be a good signing for Southampton?

He certainly would be.

While his previous loan spell with Stoke City under Mark Hughes didn’t quite work out, it seems clear that Van Ginkel has matured and improved during his loan spell with PSV, and his statistics from an attacking point of view are certainly impressive for a player that could be available for just £10m this summer.

Saints may be looking for a long-term replacement for captain Steven Davis if they do stay up, and it would continue their recent strategy of signing fringe players from bigger clubs who should have a point to prove.

Man United fans want to sign Ryan Sessegnon after his latest play-off performance

Manchester United fans are eager to sign Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon after his latest performance in the English second-tier caught the eyes of supporters.

The 17-year-old was instrumental to Fulham’s play-off win against Derby County on Monday night, scoring the first of the two goals they needed to book their place at Wembley, before providing the assist for the second.

The youngster has had a phenomenal season in the Championship, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists from a variety of positions on the Cottagers’ left flank.

With United needing options on that side of their defence and midfield, could the teenager be a viable option?

Fans certainly think so, believing he has the talent to make it at Old Trafford, even if they have to send him back on loan to Fulham for a year or two.

Many are hoping that the Red Devils break out the cheque-book this summer and make him one of their big signings of the transfer window.

Newcastle fans react as report says they want Porto attacker Yacine Brahimi

According to a report by Portuguese media outlet A Bola, Newcastle United have joined Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton in the race to sign FC Porto attacker Yacine Brahimi, and Magpies fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.A Bola says that the player has a release clause of €60m (£53m), but with just a year remaining on his contract he is likely to be available for a lower amount this summer – Transfermarkt value him at £22.5m – should the Portuguese giants choose to sell him to avoid risking losing him for nothing next year. The 28-year-old left winger has enjoyed another impressive season for Porto, scoring 12 goals and providing a further 10 assists, and he could be a potential replacement for Kenedy who has returned to Chelsea following the end of a successful loan spell.Newcastle supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Brahimi link, and while one said “I can see this happening if Rafa really wants it to”, another said “we can’t compete with the likes of Southampton or Watford which is where he will end up”.Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Liverpool fans convinced Werner would be successful signing this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will hope to bring in talent that will take the club to the next level.

The Merseyside outfit had a positive season as they secured a top-four position in the Premier League and reached the final of the Champions League.

The campaign ended in a low note, though, as the team were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the Kiev showpiece.

Two new faces have already been secured, with Naby Keita joining from RB Leipzig, while Monaco midfielder Fabinho was a surprise recruit last week.

Liverpool’s attack is already strong, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane leading the way, but some fans think that it would be boosted even further if Timo Werner joined the clan.

In an interview with Die Welt, the Leipzig forward, who is valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, admitted that he is a few years away from being world class.

The 23-year-old did, though, suggest that his teammate Keita will make it to the top level while playing for the Reds.

Twitter account Empire of there Kop claimed that Werner is not right for Liverpool at this moment, but plenty of fans disagree.

Potential consequences: Marcelo Bielsa becoming Leeds manager

Paul Heckingbottom was unable to reverse the downward trend that had set in at Leeds United under Thomas Christiansen and he paid with his job in the weeks following the conclusion of a Championship season that saw his side’s play-off hopes peter out completely.

It was a campaign of regression after Garry Monk took Leeds within touching distance of the play-offs in 2016/17 and the club is in need of genuine star quality, stability and someone to generate a feel-good factor again.

That is much, much easier said than found however, but the man who has reportedly emerged as a genuine contender to take over at Elland Road is 62-year-old former Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa.

On the face of it, the move looks like a madcap manager being linked with a madcap club, but we’ve decided to take a closer look at the genuine potential consequences if the move did go through…

Leeds would play attacking football

There is a lot of snobbery around defensive football these days but if it got Leeds back into the Premier League, you’d be hard-pushed to find a fan at Elland Road who gave a hoot.

However, it has been a while since the club’s fans were treated to an adventurous style of play but Bielsa would change all that.

His approach to strengthening sides is to embolden them with confidence to play expansively, making chances and utilising smart tactical systems to put opponents on the back foot.

This Leeds squad is currently very workmanlike, which is something of a hangover from the Monk days when results were as good as they’ve been for a while but it wasn’t pretty at times but Bielsa would try to squeeze every last ounce of attacking intent from them. It would certainly be entertaining.

Abel Hernandez would score for fun

The departure of Chris Wood was a hammer blow to Leeds’ chances of promotion last season and in the club’s attempts to keep him or wrangle a larger fee out of Burnley, they didn’t leave themselves enough time to replace him.

That means that securing a genuine goalscorer must be a priority this summer and reports linking them with Hull City striker Abel Hernandez should be music to the ears of Leeds fans.

He has had his injury problems, but when fit, he is more than capable of scoring goals for fun in the Championship.

We’ve touched on above how Hernandez would get no shortage of chances due to Bielsa’s aggressive attacking style, and over a whole season that should see him bag 20 goals, if he and Bielsa both arrive.

A play-off push is on the cards

Obviously, Bielsa and Leeds are two such combustible elements that their relationship could all end in tears and come to a very premature close but imagine that the 62-year-old manages a whole season at Elland Road.

With his attacking style of play, managerial nous and profile to attract quality to one of England’s biggest clubs, a genuine play-off push should not be ruled out.

Leeds flirted with the top six in the opening part of last season and should have made it the season before; they are not a million miles away and Bielsa has more than enough quality to help them bridge the gap.

Newcastle fans all agree Perez must stay on Tyneside

Newcastle fans all agree it would be a big mistake to let Ayoze Perez leave this summer, after a report linked the Spaniard with both Napoli and Real Sociedad.

According to the Chronicle, Perez wants to stay on Tyneside this summer, but both Sociedad and Napoli will try to change his mind.

New Sociedad boss Roberto Olabe wants both Perez and Mikel Merino to help shape his side, after Perez found form towards the end of last season.

Napoli are also in the race, as the Italian giants are likely to undergo a major squad overhaul this summer with Europe’s elite sniffing around their best players.

Perez has been massively inconsistent since his move to Tyneside, but he is one of those players that just gets what fans expect from their stars, and has finally hit the form to reward his hard work in recent months.

The clever Spaniard grabbed eight goals and five assists, and at 24 is just about to enter the prime of his career.

Rafael Benitez is pursuing another creative number ten to compete with Perez this summer, but fans are clearly hoping it doesn’t force him out, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Man United fans want club to sign Jack Wilshere after he announces Arsenal exit

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere announced on Tuesday night via his official Instagram account that he would be leaving the north London club when his contract expires at the end of this month, and Manchester United fans have urged their club to sign the England international, rated at £18m by Transfermarkt.

The 26-year-old revealed that having spoken to new Gunners boss Unai Emery he had made the decision to leave the Emirates, having been told that he wouldn’t be regular starter if he accepted the reduced terms he had been offered.

Now Wilshere is free to move elsewhere, but it remains to be seen whether Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho could be tempted seeing as he already has the likes Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Scott McTominay and Ander Herrera in the middle of the park.

Man United supporters, who have been quick to react to a link with a £44m centre-back with one saying the club would be “buying another Phil Jones”, were quick to have their say on the potential of signing Wilshere via social media, and while one said “he’s twice the player Herrera is”, another said they “would love Wilshere at United paired with Pogba”.

Wabhi Khazri deserves another chance in the Premier League after impressive World Cup display

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock may seem like an overtly attritional manager, and in the main that’s a fair assessment.

But throughout his lengthy managerial career, the Yorkshireman has always found room in his sides for a maverick winger – whether that’s QPR’s Adel Taarabt, Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie, Leeds United’s El Hadji Diouf or, as Bluebirds fans saw last season, Junior Hoilett.

And upon the Welsh outfit’s return to the Premier League, garnering extra top flight experience this summer is a must to give them the best chance of survival for 2018/19.

Sunderland forward Wabhi Khazri, who has impressed in glimpses for Tunisia at the World Cup, would appear to meet both remits – offering proven pedigree at Premier League level and also the kind of unorthodox creativity from out wide Warnock has demonstrated a recurring capacity to effectively tap into.

The Black Cats forward – who spent last season bagging nine Ligue 1 goals for Rennes – didn’t have much of an impact against England such was the defensive nature of Tunisia’s performance.

What do you think of the World Cup so far? Let us know and win any World Cup shirt of your choice.

But on Saturday, Khazri was a real thorn in the side of the Belgium defence, whipping in a sizzlingly delivery to assist Dylan Bronn and then scoring himself in stoppage time, tucking home a Hamdi Nagguez cross to ensure the underdogs went home with two goals in an otherwise hefty defeat.

Khazri is valued at just £9million by Transfermarkt but considering how desperate Sunderland will be to get him off their books now they’re in League One, Cardiff could well end up signing him for significantly less should they make a bid this summer. So, Bluebirds fans, would you back a swoop for Khazri? Let us know by voting below…

Major mistake: Southampton’s £18m-rated ace that should have left St. Mary’s by now

In recent years, Southampton have become known to most as a selling club.

Since promotion to the Premier League, the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Nathaniel Clyne to name a few, have all been sold. In the Saints’ defence, they’ve managed to do extremely well in English football’s top division considering how many of their star players have been pinched.

Despite the constant array of departures at St. Mary’s, one player that the Saints have been able to retain, is the £18m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Ryan Bertrand.

Bertrand has reportedly attracted interest from former club Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham during his time at Southampton, but a transfer to one of the Premier League giants has failed to materialise. Considering all three clubs have the resources to sign Bertrand, one reason for the England international’s stay may simply be down to a worry of playing time elsewhere.

In Marcos Alonso and Benjamin Mendy, Chelsea and Manchester City have two of the best left-backs in the division, while despite speculation surrounding a move away from White Hart Lane, Danny Rose has remained at Tottenham to battle Ben Davies for a first-team spot in Tottenham’s starting XI.

However, Bertrand himself is one of the Premier League’s leading left-backs and has the ability to cement a place in any top six side.

At 28, Bertrand is in the prime of his career and is running out of time if he wants to relive success similar to what he enjoyed at Chelsea when he helped the club win their first Champions League trophy back in 2012.

Fantasy Premier League: How to replace this Man United star

For Fantasy Premier League managers, the Champions League and Europa League games can come as a mixed bag, as a player can gain good form or sustain an injury that could force you to quickly find a replacement. And however obvious that may be, no one could have predicted the horrific injury to Manchester United star Luke Shaw.

The defender will be out for the majority if not the entire season, and we wish him the best of luck on the road to full recovery.

But now we have the unfortunate duty of replacing the consistent left-back in our crowd-sourced Fantasy Football Team, and we will be giving you five options that you can vote for below!

Here are FIVE Defenders that can replace Luke Shaw in our Fantasy Football Team with an extra £1.0m in the bank!

Matteo Darmian

The most obvious choice would be an almost like-for-like swap for Manchester United team-mate Matteo Darmian. The Italy international costs the same as Shaw (5.7m) and operates in a similar manner on the opposite flank.

Darmian does however have the tendency to pick up more yellow cards (with three already) than the English full-back, yet he is a guaranteed starter in Louis van Gaal’s back-line.

But with United’s fixtures set to get trickier, it may be best to avoid bringing in a Red Devils defender for now with games against Southampton (Away), Sunderland (Home), Arsenal (Away), Everton (Away), and Man City (Home), coming up in the next five. Only the home game against the Black Cats offers a great chance of a clean sheet.

Aleksandar Kolarov

If you do not have a Manchester City defender already in your squad, then it’s almost impossible to not consider Aleksandar Kolorav despite his hefty 5.9 price tag.

The Serbia international left-back is the highest scoring defender in the Fantasy Premier League game, scoring one goal and keeping five clean sheets while amassing an incredible 10 bonus points for his attacking forays, meaning he can produce on both ends of the pitch.

Many may consider Bacary Sagna as a cheaper and adequate alternative (5.1m), but with first-choice Pablo Zabaleta (5.9m) set to recover from injury soon, the Frenchman’s position may be under threat.

Aaron Cresswell

West Ham United seem to have finally stabled their inconsistent ship after their 2-0 home win over Newcastle United on Monday, and although Dimitri Payet took the plaudits with two goals, the Hammers also recorded a nice clean sheet for their defenders.

The pick of the bunch is undoubtedly attacking left-back Aaron Cresswell (5.5m), who has amassed 28 points in five games and has the potential to give you attacking returns with two assists already to his name.

Cresswell will come in 0.2m points cheaper than Shaw and apart from their next game against Manchester City at the Etihad, the schedule is set to get kinder for the marauding left-back and the Irons, with Norwich (Home), Sunderland (Away), Crystal Palace (Away) coming after the City clash.

Craig Dawson

Craig Dawson (5.0m) is an option based purely on the fact that West Bromwich Albion are being managed by defensive master Tony Pulis, who has already guided his side to three clean sheets in the space of five games (with the two games they’ve leaked goals against Manchester City and Chelsea).

And it looks like there will be more shut-outs in the upcoming gameweeks as the Baggies face Aston Villa (away), Everton (Home), Crystal Palace (Away), Sunderland (Home), and Norwich (Away) in their next five games.

We could very well also pick Gareth McAuley (5.0m) at the same price as Dawson, but although we want Jonny Evans (4.8), the former Manchester United ace is currently carrying a knock and we have no intention of risking it.

Eric Dier

Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier (5.0m) is an interesting proposition to replace Luke Shaw in our Fantasy Team after the youngster already collected 23 points in his first five games.

What makes Dier an attractive option is that the 21-year-old is currently being deployed in an out-of-position defensive midfield role for manager Mauricio Pochettino, increasing his chances of attacking returns.

Dier also had a man-of-the-match performance against Sunderland that earned him three bonus points, and Spurs don’t concede many goals after shipping just four in their first five games. The Lilywhites have three home games in their next four, although Manchester City visit them in gameweek seven.
