Leicester: Maresca Eyeing Swoop To Sign £6.1k-p/w Maestro

An update has emerged on Leicester City and their plans to bolster the playing squad before the end of the summer transfer window…

What's the latest Leicester transfer news?

Journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon site, has claimed the Foxes are one of a number of clubs in the race to land Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan as Enzo Maresca eyes a swoop for his services.

The Sun reporter has revealed that Championship sides Ipswich Town, Birmingham City, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers are also competing to land his signature before next month's deadline.

Roy Hodgson is willing to sanction a temporary exit for the talented winger and they will now allow the player to make a final decision on where he wants to play his football this season.

How good is Jesurun Rak-Sakyi?

Maresca could land Stephy Mavididi 2.0 for the Foxes by securing a deal to sign the 20-year-old gem as his form for Charlton Athletic last term suggests that there is a terrific prospect to be unearthed there.

The superb Eagles youngster plundered an eye-catching 15 goals and eight assists across 40 starts in League One as he showcased his ability as a scorer and a creator from a right wing position.

He is a left-footed forward who can come inside on his favoured foot from the right flank to make things happen at the top end of the pitch. This makes him a similar option to Mavididi on the left for Leicester as the signing from Montpellier is a right-footed left winger.

Leicester winger Stephy Mavididi.

The one-time Arsenal prospect moved inside onto his right to great effect on Sunday as he set up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the winning goal against Coventry on his debut by drifting into the box before laying the ball off for his compatriot to fire past Ben Wilson.

He showcased his creative quality with three chances created on the opening day but earned himself a reputation as a goalscorer during his time in France with at least eight Ligue 1 strikes in two of his last three seasons with Montpellier.

The 25-year-old wizard has the potential to be a pivotal player for Maresca in the Championship this season if he can continue to be an excellent creator from out wide whilst also being able to translate his goal threat from French football over to England.

Rak-Sakyi could offer a similar level of production on the opposite flank if he is able to make the step up to the second tier after a strong year in League One for the Addicks.

The £6.1k-per-week magician's form for Charlton came after he provided an impressive 18 goals and five assists in 25 Premier League 2 matches for Palace during the 2021/22 campaign.

His former boss Ben Garner hailed his "wonderful" balance and described him as a "throwback" of a winger, which could lead to him exciting the King Power crowd if they are able to snap the 20-year-old gem up on loan.

Rak-Sakyi's ability to score and assist goals on a regular basis from a wide position could make him a constant threat for Leicester in the Championship, which is exactly what Mavididi is threatening to be if he can build on his debut outing.

Centurion Rachel Priest and captain Heather Knight led Western Storm to a record-breaking Kia Super League win over Yorkshire Diamonds at York as they chased down 161 to win by 10 wickets with three overs to spare.New Zealander Priest led the way with some fearsome hitting, albeit taking advantage of a bit of luck along the way as the Diamonds spilt a couple of boundary chances. She finished with 106 not out off 65 balls and Knight unbeaten on 48 off 38. The pair shared the highest stand in two seasons of the KSL.A second win from three matches puts Storm level on eight points with the Diamonds in third place with a game in hand in the race to reach Finals Day.Home captain Lauren Winfield, batting in her home city, had earlier posted 58 off 44 balls as England’s World Cup winning hero Anya Shrubsole returned to action following a side injury with 1 for 30 from four overs.Despite the early loss of Sri Lankan Chamari Atapattu, run out by a direct hit at the non-striker’s end from Stefanie Taylor from mid-on, the Diamonds got off to a healthy as another Kiwi Sophie Devine cut loose with 41.Devine hit offspinner Claire Nicholas for two big sixes over long-on and midwicket as the score reached 55 for 1 after five.Devine played on trying to hoist Shrubsole to leg with 75 on the board in the eighth over before Winfield, happy to take few risks, reached 50 off 38 balls in the 16th over as the score reached 132 for 3.The Diamonds then lost four wickets for 19 in the last three overs, the first of which was Winfield bowled by a Davies slower ball, to slip from 141 for 3.Hollie Armitage then dropped a couple of catches at long-on, with Priest on 25 being the most costly. Her 39-ball fifty included two sixes over long-on, the second off compatriot Devine’s first ball in the tenth over as Storm reached halfway at 81 without loss. Fours and sixes continued to come at ease as Yorkshire’s heads dropped.Priest reached her century off 64 balls, the second in KSL history, with 13 fours and three sixes with the penultimate ball of the match.Storm’s next fixture is against Surrey at the Oval on Wednesday, while Yorkshire’s final game comes against Southern Vipers at Arundel on Saturday.

Paine focused on short-term international goals

With the flux around Australia’s wicketkeeping spot, Tim Paine is aware a few good performances can keep him in the selection mix but he insists he isn’t looking too far ahead yet

As Tim Paine walked into the media conference room in Ranchi, it seemed like it was 2010 all over again. With a remarkably fresh face that seemed immune to the passage of time, he flashed a smile that resonated of the satisfaction of success. After all, it was in India that Paine, 32, completed a fairly successful Test sojourn almost seven years to the day, with 183 runs from two Tests, including two half-centuries, at an average of nearly 46.As it has turned out, Paine hasn’t played another Test after the Bengaluru game in 2010. In the ensuing period, he injured his right index finger, underwent seven surgeries and spent six years out of the national set-up, eventually losing his place in the Tasmania side. Retirement loomed and a career with Kookaburra awaited him, but things turned around and how.Paine’s prolific run with the bat for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League – he is eighth on the all-time run charts in the league – earned him a return to the Australia side, albeit a second-string one that played a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in February. For a man who counted his blessings for having represented Australia in as many games as he did, this was an unexpected break.”I had the opportunity to stay with Tasmania for another couple of years and ever since I’ve been picked to play in the T20Is in Sri Lanka and got another opportunity here. It’s turned around quickly and I’m grateful for that,” Paine said on the eve of the first T20I against India in Ranchi. “For me to sit back and be bitter about what happened would be pretty silly. It would be easy to do that. Even before getting back into the T20I side, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved. I’ve played some Tests for Australia, I’ve played 30 [26] ODIs. I don’t look at ‘what might have been’, I’m happy with what’s happened so far and hopeful that it’ll continue for another few years.”Paine, however, was realistic about the futility of setting long-term goals given where his career was at the moment. “First and foremost, it’s to do well tomorrow night. I know it’s a bit of a cliché but someone my age and my position, it’d be foolish to look too far ahead,” he said. “I just have to keep reminding myself that I want to do well tomorrow night, do well in a new series, and then when I head home to Australia I hope to start the Shield season and the JLT Cup really well.”Faf du Plessis and Tim Paine run between the wickets•AFP

Paine was slotted in at No.7 and 8 during the Sri Lanka series, and as a result faced only six balls across three games. He was aware, though, his role wouldn’t be dissimilar against India and that he had to find ways to overcome his limitations. Paine went about doing that by taking first strike at the Australia nets, and faced a number of throwdowns. With power-hitting not being his strong point, Paine repeatedly attempted ramps and scoops, while venturing the occasional hoick against the likes of Glenn Maxwell.”It is [difficult to bat down the order for a top-order bat],” he conceded. “But, at the end of the day, it is batting isn’t it? In 20-20 cricket, you get six overs where the field is up then there’s five [fielders] out. I’ve batted a majority of time in 20-20 cricket is five out, albeit I might be [on] 20 or 30 beforehand. But I’m looking forward to it. It’s something different and again it’s another way that I can improve my cricket.”Paine’s stronger suit is wicket-keeping and he wasn’t coy talking it up. As if to reiterate his point, he frequently dived to both sides to gather some fine catches at training. Given Matthew Wade’s struggles and the flux around Australia’s keeping department, Paine was aware some good performances would keep him in the conversation.”I think I’m one of the best wicketkeepers in Australia. I’ve always said that and I’ve always felt that,” he said. “The area that has probably let me down in the last two-three years has been my batting. So I feel that at the moment, I’m keeping as well as I ever have. I just need to put some runs on the board. As we’ve seen in the last few days, if you start well in Australia and have a good series here, there are some huge opportunities around Australian cricket.”Having recently become a father, Paine admitted to not having found enough time to watch the ODI series in entirety. It might not necessarily be a bad thing, as he wouldn’t have registered the scars of the 4-1 defeat as much as the personnel who played in the series. “Now that I’ve had my first child, so I’ve had my hands full sort of from 6 o’ clock onwards at home, so I’ve only been able to see the highlights,” he said. “Obviously India have been playing some really, really good cricket. They’re high on confidence so we’ve got to come out firing tomorrow night.”

Alasdair Gold Drops Intriguing Harry Kane Transfer Claim

The inside story behind the delay in the Harry Kane transfer has been revealed by Alasdair Gold.

The Tottenham Hotspur record goalscorer sealed his move away from North London on Saturday.

Has Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich?

The England national team captain has finally completed his switch to the current Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich after a long drawn-out saga throughout the summer. The deal is worth a reported £100m and could rise by £15-20m depending on add-ons, with the striker taking the iconic number 9 shirt at the Allianz Arena.

Spurs didn't want to lose their talisman, but due to his unwillingness to sign a new deal, the club cashed out, with chairman Daniel Levy stating in an official club statement:

“We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term. Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer. We have reluctantly, therefore, agreed to his transfer."

The transfer was not a simple one, with the Bavarian side seeing three offers rejected for the Premier League star. There were multiple meetings held between the club's executives and eventually a deal was agreed on Thursday morning, with personal terms agreed later on in the day after a delay, where it was reported that the boyhood Tottenham fan was leaning towards staying at the club. Ultimately, personal terms were agreed and Kane departed after 435 appearances, during which he managed 280 goals and 64 assists.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold revealed that there was optimism at points from people at Tottenham that Kane would stay, and that his doubts about the switch were "genuine".

"Genuinely, Harry Kane did have a wobble in terms of what he wanted to do, that’s well known in the corridors of Tottenham Hotspur that having told Postecoglou on the first day that he met him that yeah, he did want to move if a deal could be done, but he was happy to stay and play for him if it couldn’t.

When it came to it yesterday there was a bit of a wobble, that’s why you saw some stuff about potentially he could end up staying, and even by the end of play yesterday, despite the confidence coming out of Germany, back in England and around Spurs there was a feeling that he might end up staying, but in the end we woke up to everything being near done."

What next for Tottenham Hotspur?

The North London side are looking to spend the money brought in via the Kane departure.

One position they are working on is striker following the sale of their first choice number nine, with one name on the shortlist being Gent striker Gift Orban, with Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reporting that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with the Belgian side wanting €30m plus add-ons to part with the Nigerian forward, whilst Spurs have only offered €27m at this point, with a written offer set to arrive next week in order to advance negotiations.

Spurs also remain in the race for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba. The Burkina Faso international has been a target all summer, and according to Football Insider the Lilywhites are set to accelerate their pursuit after completing the signing of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg earlier in the window. However, they could face competition from Newcastle United who are reportedly ready to hijack the deal and offer £50m for the defender.

Grêmio vence Caxias e fica próximo do tricampeonato do Gauchão

West Ham May Already Have Rice’s Regen In "Impressive" 17 y/o Starlet

The goal for every West Ham United youngster is to emulate the journey and heroics of Declan Rice.

After being released by Chelsea in 2013, the Englishman joined West Ham. Within the Irons’ academy, he developed into one of the club’s most talented assets.

After seven seasons, 245 appearances, and 15 goals, Rice captained the Hammers to their first European trophy since 1965.

His quality and consistency earned the midfielder a £105m transfer to Arsenal, where he is expected to be a crucial component of a side looking to be persistent challengers for the Premier League title.

But, West Ham academy coach Trevor Bumstead asserted that his mentality is the reason for his success, saying: “A lot of players who are more talented than him don't get as far as he has gone, because they don't have the character and desire that he's got."

"We speak a lot about having outstanding attributes. Declan's aren't technical attributes. It's his character, determination, and personality.”

It has set the precedent for the next generation of West Ham’s academy, with Lewis Orford tipped to follow this pathway.

Who is Lewis Orford?

The 17-year-old is a lifelong West Ham fan and made his Premier League 2 debut for Mark Robson’s U21 side in March 2023, before scoring his first goal for the development team in a 5-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. He also played a pivotal role in the club’s FA Youth Cup victory over Arsenal.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

Moreover, in total for the U18 side, Orford has recorded 34 goal contributions in 53 games, whilst operating as a conventional central midfielder.

As a result of his limitless potential, Orford signed professional terms with the Hammers ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

How good is Lewis Orford?

The teenager was named West Ham’s most promising academy talent by the Guardian, who likened his trajectory to that of some previous greats.

They wrote: “West Ham continues to be production line for midfielders and Orford, a lifelong fan, might be the latest to follow Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Michael Carrick. His height reminds of Rice and Carrick though he exhibits a greater turn of pace than either, with a range of passing beyond his years that has made him the Hammers’ Under-18 playmaker.”

By this reasoning, Orford seems to be a generational mix of various Premier League giants, but due to its recency, the aim has to be Rice’s influence.

Declan Rice

The Arsenal recruit has previously been showered in praise by former Chelsea scouting coordinator Martin Taylor, who said: “I always saw him as a player who could play at the top level because of the desire he's got. Nothing fazes him.

"He was always the rock in midfield. He'd win the ball, break it up, win tackles.”

Their play styles arguably differ, as Rice never even came close to replicating the numbers that Orford has produced in the youth system. But, Orford has that intelligence, defensive acumen, athleticism, and range of passing that we have become so accustomed to seeing from his senior.

If he assumes Rice’s confidence, fearlessness, and aspiration then he has the perfect foundation to build a glittering career with David Moyes.

West Ham academy manager Kenny Brown has described Orford’s development as “impressive” and it appears that the sky is the limit for this boundlessly talented gem.

Haroon Lorgat and Cricket South Africa part ways

Cricket South Africa and its chief executive officer Haroon Lorgat have “mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect” because of a “breakdown” in their relationship

Cricket South Africa and its chief executive officer Haroon Lorgat have “mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect” because of a “breakdown” in their relationship.Lorgat’s term was supposed to continue until 2019 but it is understood that his position became untenable over differences with CSA in the handling of the upcoming T20 Global League, which is expected to go ahead as planned, and an ongoing dispute with Naasei Appiah, CSA’s CFO.Appiah and Lorgat were involved in a formal dispute process and ESPNcricnfo understands the lawyer who conducted proceedings had submitted his report, the contents of which may now be irrelevant.CSA vice-president Thabang Moroe was appointed as acting CEO, while the search for a new CEO begins.”We recently tried on a few occasions to remedy the situation between Mr Lorgat and the board, but we have not been successful in finding a satisfactory resolution,” CSA president Chris Nenzani said. “The board unanimously felt that it was in the best interest of the organisation that we agreed to a mutual separation agreement with Mr Lorgat.”It was a tough call for us to make and we recognise that Mr Lorgat had made a big contribution to the success of the organisation and together with the board was instrumental in changing the fortunes of CSA when it had endured a troublesome period five years ago. We are all saddened by this turn of events, but at the same time we need to look forward to ensure new leadership at CSA builds on the solid foundation laid by Mr Lorgat.”The most pressing concern CSA has is the running of the GLT20, which was very much Lorgat’s project. Lorgat’s departure comes a little more than a month before the event is set to start on November 3 and there is no broadcast deal yet. Lorgat was in India earlier this week attempting to secure a broadcaster, while talks with Africa’s main sports broadcaster continue. initially believed it owned the rights to all cricket played in South Africa because of a long-standing contract with CSA, but has since been tied up in negotiation over the GLT20, which CSA sees as a cash-cow. The amount CSA wants for the rights is believed to be a bone of contention. One source revealed that Lorgat’s departure may clear the way for a deal to be sealed soon, while another expected CSA to make an announcement over the broadcast plan in the next few days. The actual running of the GLT20 will continue as planned, with several CSA and additional staff deployed to work on the tournament. Though Lorgat was largely dealing with the franchise owners, all eight are understood to have met with the CSA board on Wednesday, when they were reassured the tournament will not face any hurdles despite Lorgat no longer being involved. The CSA board’s alarm at Lorgat’s expenditure on the tournament so far will also come to an end. According to CSA’s financial statements, the GLT20 has already cost R4.5 million (US$ 330,000) between May 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017, with money spent on first-class travel and corporate events. That time period does not take into account the launch in London in June or the draft in August. CSA is anticipating a loss in the initial year, or perhaps more, of the league.Lorgat was appointed CEO in July 2013 for a period of three years, and in 2015 he was given a three-year extension until July 2019. In total, he served four years and two months in a tenure that started and ended in controversy.Five months into Lorgat’s term, he ran into trouble with the BCCI and that problem cost CSA several millions. The BCCI had issues with Lorgat while he was in charge at the ICC and was so unhappy with his appointment as CSA CEO that they cut short a tour of three Tests, five ODIs and two T20Is, to one of two Tests and three ODIs. CSA was only able to cushion the financial blow because the rand had crashed in value to the dollar at the same time and when exchange-rate calculations were done, the loss was lower. In later years, Lorgat had great success in other departments. He oversaw an overhaul of CSA’s governance structures and redesigned the financial model while also playing an active role in supporting transformation and starting developments plans around the country. But he was never able to win India over.India’s upcoming tour of South Africa will not include a Boxing Day Test and the New Year’s Test will be delayed until January 5, three days after its traditional start.
