Everton’s £125k-p/w "Monster" "Can Leave" If Relegated

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford "can leave" in the summer should the club get relegated from the Premier League, according to CBS reporter and journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest on Pickford's future?

The England international first arrived at Goodison Park in July 2017 and has since gone on to establish himself as the first-choice shot-stopper between the sticks having made 231 appearances to date, and he has only continued to impress since the arrival of Sean Dyche.

Back in February, the Toffees talisman signed a new long-term deal which keeps him at the club for at least another four years, but with him currently pocketing £125k-per-week, making him the highest earner in the squad, the board will be aware that their most prized assets will have to be sold to free up the wage bill should they fail to avoid the drop at the end of the season.

Reports have claimed Tottenham Hotspur have identified the 29-year-old as their number one target to replace Hugo Lloris during the upcoming window with a £35m price tag having been placed on his head, though it's worth noting that this could decrease even further should relegation occur.

According to Jacobs (via CaughtOffside), Everton are indeed in danger of losing the services of Pickford as a result of an in-house agreement being in place, with Ryan Mason's side very much in pole position to sign him. He said:

“I still wouldn’t rule out a Premier League club moving for Jordan Pickford, even though he’s signed a new deal until 2027 with no relegation clause in it. There is still an informal agreement if Everton go down that Pickford can leave. Spurs were always a frontrunner, but we’ll have to wait and see now what their new manager thinks.”

Should Everton keep or sell Pickford?

Pickford has undoubtedly been one of Everton's standout performers over the years having kept 61 clean sheets in 231 appearances at Goodison Park, and with his form for England also having seen him dubbed a "monster" by journalist Joe Crann, Dyche needs to do everything he can to retain his side's top-flight status and hang on to his goalkeeper.

The Puma-sponsored athlete has recorded 108 saves from 154 shots on target against this season and provides a strong outlet with his range of passing from the back, having completed 141 of 142 short passes and 214 of 218 medium passes since the start of the current term, as per FBRef.

Finally, Pickford has twice been the recipient of Everton's Player of the Year award which just goes to show how much he's appreciated and individually recognised for his efforts by the supporters, so even the thought of losing him will be a huge blow.

£90k p/w Leeds Ace Questioned After Behind-Scenes Footage

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison was spotted sitting alone on the bench following their defeat on the south coast to Bournemouth on the weekend.

What was Jack Harrison seen doing?

Javi Gracia will be wanting to put Sunday behind him very quickly as Leeds suffered defeat away to one of their relegation rivals, Bournemouth.

Not only did Leeds taste defeat, but they were on the end of a 4-1 hammering as the Cherries secured the points to take them nine points clear of the Yorkshire side.

Leeds found themselves 2-0 down fairly early in the game but were offered a glimmer of hope when Patrick Bamford halved the deficit before half-time.

However, Bournemouth went on to secure the points with two further goals after the break which leaves the Whites now just one-point above the drop having played a game more than Leicester City and Everton.

Following the game, footage emerged of the £90k-per-week ace seen sitting alone on the bench still in his full strip after all the fans had vacated the stadium.

Having posted it on Twitter, the Leeds presenter questioned whether there was more to this than what may initially meet the eye:

"It might be nothing but been sent this by a Bournemouth fan. Why is Jack Harrison sitting alone in the dugout Ten mins after the stadium had emptied? Shouldn’t they all be in the dressing room? I am confused. Something isn't right," he said.

Has Harrison been good enough this season?

The Leeds winger has recently put pen to paper on a new deal which will see his future extended at Elland Road through until the summer of 2028.

It has been a fairly inconsistent campaign for the Englishman who has provided a solid return of four goals and seven assists in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

However, three of those goals and three of those assists have all come since the last week in February.

Leeds bossJavi Gracia

The other goal and a further three assists all came in the first three weeks of the campaign, too.

This has left a huge barren run through the majority of the campaign where the 26-year-old has not been providing the Whites with a contribution in front of goal.

Harrison was awarded with a mere 4/10 rating following the game on Sunday with journalist Graham Smyth saying:

"Tried to get up and down but couldn't do enough. Defending for the first was poor, albeit after a pitch-length sprint. Position asked a huge amount."

Harrison has registered two key passes, three clearances and a tackle during the game on the south coast, however, he was also dribbled past twice and lost possession 20 times (via SofaScore).

The video shows the winger is hurting, however, it is apparent there is no time for the Leeds players to be feeling sorry for themselves with Manchester City next up for the Whites.

Table-topping Lions start as underdogs in RCB's fortress

Gujarat Lions topped the IPL league table, but they are underdogs going into their Qualifier against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have won four games on the trot and are playing at home

The Preview by Karthik Krishnaswamy23-May-2016Match factsTuesday, May 24, 2016
Start time 2000 local (1430 GMT)Big PictureHow do you beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bangalore? How do you do this when they’ve won four games on the trot? How do you do this when, in those four matches, Virat Kohli has scored 109, 75*, 113 and 54*? And how do you beat that scary, Kohli-powered Royal Challengers side, on their own turf, when your last attempt at doing so resulted in the worst defeat in all IPL matches, by a brutal 144 runs? Those questions will preoccupy Gujarat Lions as they prepare for Tuesday’s Qualifier 1. It is unusual for a table-topping team, who are one win from a place in a final, to seem like underdogs, but that is what Lions are.For a table-topping team, Lions have had a strange sort of season, with only Kings XI Punjab, the bottom team, ending the league stage with a worse net run rate than them. It reflects the fact that Lions have suffered a few heavy defeats – including that mauling at Royal Challengers’ hands – and won some exceedingly tight games, with three of their matches going down to the last ball. But the fact that Lions won all three of those last-ball finishes, as well as their one other match that went into the last over, would also suggest they have won the clutch moments, a welcome quality in any team.Lions will need to summon up all that clutch ability – though readers of will helpfully point out that it is a myth – on Tuesday, and come up with some sort of plan to contain – or somehow outscore – Royal Challengers’ batting line-up.This is T20, of course, and all you need is one good day – a blazing opening stand, perhaps, with Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch taking apart what is still, despite a couple of encouraging recent displays, an average Royal Challengers bowling attack; or a Suresh Raina special; or a new-ball burst that leaves the home team two down early, with Kohli one of the two batsmen dismissed, and AB de Villiers, maybe, the other. These things can happen. Lions will certainly hope they can.Form guideGujarat Lions WWLWL (last five matches, most recent first)
Royal Challengers Bangalore WWWWLIn the spotlightGiven the Chinnaswamy’s small boundaries and flat pitch, an ability to move the ball through the air is priceless. Praveen Kumar has that ability, and the street-smarts to bowl to one of the most imposing T20 line-ups ever assembled. He comes into the Qualifier with a bit of form behind him: he’s gone for six an over or less in three of his last four matches. The one match when he did go for runs, however, was against Royal Challengers, in Bangalore – his figures read 4-1-45-2, and Gujarat Lions conceded 248.Yuzvendra Chahal has found a place in India’s ODI and T20 squads for their tour of Zimbabwe, but before he can celebrate, he will need to produce another spell of wicket-taking legspin with his home venue stacking the odds against him. With two left-handers in their top six in Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, Gujarat Lions may plan to target Chahal and, if he plays, Iqbal Abdulla as well.Team newsDale Steyn has played only one match this season, and James Faulkner only seven, with his last appearance coming on May 3. It will be a difficult decision for Gujarat Lions to play either of them, since their four regular overseas players have all done well of late. But it is a sacrifice they may have to contemplate, if they want to strengthen their bowling against the best batting line-up in the tournament. It seems unlikely to happen, though. Likelier is the inclusion of Ishan Kishan, a left-hand batsman, in place of Eklavya Dwivedi, in order to go after the legspin of Yuzvendra Chahal and/or the left-arm spin of Iqbal Abdulla.Gujarat Lions: 1 Aaron Finch, 2 Brendon McCullum, 3 Suresh Raina (capt), 4 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 5 Dwayne Smith, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Eklavya Dwivedi/Ishan Kishan, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Dhawal Kulkarni, 11 Shadab Jakati/Shivil Kaushik/Pravin TambeRoyal Challengers tend to play an extra seamer rather than a second specialist spinner in their home games, which could mean Varun Aaron comes back in place of Iqbal Abdulla.Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Virat Kohli (capt), 3 AB de Villiers, 4 KL Rahul (wk), 5 Shane Watson, 6 Stuart Binny, 7 Sachin Baby, 8 Chris Jordan, 9 S Aravind, 10 Iqbal Abdulla/Varun Aaron, 11 Yuzvendra ChahalPitch and conditionsTeams know what to expect when they come to Bangalore – perfect batting conditions and short boundaries. In the eight matches played here so far this season, there has only been one first-innings score below 185. There have been intermittent showers in Bangalore over the last week or so, but no rain is forecast for Tuesday, with an expected high of 35 degrees Celsius.Stats and trivia Royal Challengers have hit 122 sixes this season, with Mumbai Indians a distant second on 92. Gujarat Lions have hit only 52 sixes – the fewest among all the teams – but have hit 208 fours, which is second to Royal Challengers’ 215 Lions (11.13) and Royal Challengers (10.71) have the worst economy rates in the last five overs among all teams this season Royal Challengers’ batsmen have made up for this by scoring at 12.79 in the last five overs, while Lions have the worst last-five-overs run rate as well (8.67). They do, however, have the best Powerplay scoring rate, of 8.75 Dhawal Kulkarni and Dwayne Smith are both three short of 100 T20 wickets

Man United Slammed Amid £200k-p/w Contract Offer

Journalist Jacque Talbot has slammed Manchester United amid news of their £200k-p/w contract offer for goalkeeper David de Gea.

What's the latest Man Utd contract news?

Earlier this week, it was announced that talented winger Alejandro Garnacho would be signing a new deal to will extend his stay at the Premier League club until June 2028.

And it seems as though first-team contracts are on the agenda for Man United and Erik ten Hag right now as they are looking to negotiate new terms with Marcus Rashford and De Gea.

Specifically on the Spaniard, The Sun have claimed that he has been offered a deal worth £200k-p/w but his camp are holding out for a higher wage.

While talking about all this on his YouTube channel, Talbot questioned the wisdom of keeping the goalkeeper around.

Indeed, he said (17:41): “Why are you offering David De Gea £200,000…

"I know he must be a big personality in the dressing room and that but Man United need to progress.

"David de Gea can make saves that no one else can, he can. I remember watching him against Arsenal about two seasons ago, you're like: 'Wow, how can you do that? You are like out worldly'.

"But there's more to it nowadays in the modern game for a goalkeeper you need to have more than just world-class saves.”

How much does De Gea earn?

As per a recent report in The Telegraph – which Talbot is responding too – United have until later this month to activate a 12-month extension option in De Gea’s deal.

However, that £200k-p/w offer shows they are trying to work out a new contract altogether, on reduced terms, as his current £375k-p/w deal makes him the club's top earner.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea watches on as his side capitulates in the Europa League.

There has been plenty of talk about De Gea not really suiting Ten Hag's style of play due to his inability to play out from the back comfortably with the ball at his feet.

For example, the club's manager has even referenced this when talking to the press after he struggled against Real Betis in Europe.

Ten Hag said (via 90min): "From [the game], I can't ignore it, but I think we have seen many games he did really well.

"I don't know why, or [what] the reason was. There was a lot of wind, it's a different ball, he probably had some problems with that. But I know he can deal with it and he will do Sunday better."

With that being the case, you can understand why United certainly don't want to offer him the same wages as before.

But perhaps they would be better off just letting him leave and then splashing the case on a shot-stopper who is happier with the ball at his feet – especially as De Gea is still going to be paid extremely well if he does stay.

FSG & Liverpool Considering Move For £40m Midfield "Beast"

Liverpool are considering making a summer approach to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, according to reports.

What's the latest on Neves to Liverpool?

The Old Gold captain first arrived in the Premier League back in 2017 and has since gone on to make 250 appearances at Molineux, but his future heading into the upcoming window is in the air.

The Portuguese international will be out of contract at the end of the next season and reports have claimed that he is ready to quit and embark on a new challenge, so with this set to be the final chance for Julen Lopetegui’s side to cash in, potential suitors are already circling, including the Reds.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed in April that Jurgen Klopp does have the 26-year-old on his list of midfield targets but that a move was not “imminent”, though a fresh update has now emerged which suggests otherwise.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (via TEAMtalk), Liverpool, alongside top-flight rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, are all “strongly considering” making an official approach for Neves. The Wolves skipper is “keen” on a move to Barcelona, who are also name-checked as admirers, but it’s the trio that are the ones “in the race” to secure his services. The Midlands outfit have set a price tag “in the region” of £40m for their prized asset, though there’s a chance that could be increased given the calibre of clubs chasing him.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

Would Neves be a good signing for Liverpool?

Liverpool have clearly been long-term admirers of Neves and it’s no surprise that he’s attracting interest being Wolves’ overall top-performing player this season with a WhoScored match rating of 6.99, so he would certainly be a fantastic acquisition for FSG and Klopp.

The Nike-sponsored star, called "incredible" by his teammates, is naturally a defensive midfielder who sits just in front of the backline, which is proven by him ranking in the 98th percentile for clearances amongst midfielders, but he’s also capable of contributing to efforts in the final third.

The World Cup and Europa League participant has recorded a total of 72 shot-creating actions and 62 shots since the start of the current term which is higher than any other member of his squad, as per FBRef, not to mention that he’s got seven goal involvements to his name as a reward.

Finally, Neves has been dubbed a “beast” by the United States’ former professional Jimmy Conrad, so for all of the valuable qualities that he would add to the squad, he could be the perfect Fabinho successor.

Media Stunned By "Brilliant" Newcastle Star Vs Leeds

Journalist Keith Downie lauded Nick Pope's impact in Newcastle United's thrilling 2-2 draw away to Leeds United on Saturday lunchtime, as the two sides played out a memorable encounter.

How did Newcastle fare at Leeds?

The Magpies returned to Premier League action on Saturday, in what was a massive game for both sides, for very different reasons. Eddie Howe's men knew how vital three points would be in their push for a top-four finish, while Leeds are desperately battling to staying the division.

Newcastle made a nightmare start, falling behind to Luke Ayling's strike, but Patrick Bamford's missed penalty, which Pope saved expertly, saw the match turn on its head completely.

Just minutes later, Callum Willson equalised from the penalty spot after Alexander Isak was fouled, as the visitors took control of proceedings. Wilson's second spot-kick of the afternoon put Newcastle ahead, but Rasmus Kristensen equalised late in the day, in what ultimately proved to be two point droppsed by the Howe's team.

Nick Pope celebrates Newcastle United's Premier League victory over Brentford.

Was Downie impressed with Pope?

It was another good outing for Pope, who has enjoyed an excellent season in general, and Downie took to Twitter to laud his penalty save in the first half at Elland Road, as he made his presence felt:

"What a penalty save that could prove to be from Nick Pope. Newcastle haven’t started here, but the big keeper has kept his side in it with a brilliant stop from Bamford’s penalty."

There are so many players who have contributed positively to Newcastle's season, to Kieran Tripper and Sven Botman in defence to Isak and Wilson in attack, but Pope deserves enormous credit in his own right. He has been one of the standout goalkeepers in the Premier League, performing with great consistency since August, and he is surely pushing Jordan Pickford hard to be England's first-choice man between the sticks moving forward.

The great players stand tall in big games and the 31-year-old did exactly that against Leeds, getting the better of Bamford and not putting a foot wrong all game, with some of his decision-making outside the penalty area immaculate throughout.

Pope may not always receive the accolades that some others in his position do, from Alisson to Ederson, but he has been an outstanding signing, and if a top-four finish is achieved over the next few games, he will have played a major part in a fantastic season for Newcastle.
